The digital fuel

The expression "feels like time is standing still" was very common for humans for the longest time. While some noticed a changed of pace they were mainly assuming technology was moving forward a lot faster, not many realized the true consequences of this.

Billy's dad had spent his last years protesting it, even though the active rebellion were huge in numbers not many would take them serious. The world was filled with a lot of conspiracy groups some sounding as insane as the other it felt like picking a needle out of haystacks. Not only did people quickly judge them as being dangerous but they didn't even have time to care or look into it properly as their jobs requiring them to do so much with the pace of adaption. People were being laid off left and right as the economy was falling in ruins. Billy was only a kid when his dad was beaten down by police and lost his life, things had changed a lot since then. As he was making his way to highschool he remembered that his school bag was torn and he was supposed to buy a new one yesterday. He rushes back in to look for a replacement in the wardrobe but there is nothing but clothes and hats, he continues down to the basement as he remembers to have seen his old one there but looking around in boxes he can't find it anywhere. Opening the last one he realizes it was the box of his dads stuff but as he's about to leave something catches his eye and he turns back. "A bag" he thinks and digs it out of the box, he vaguely remembers his dad having used this bag that looks like one of those that journalists use. He decides not to care what it looks like as long as his stuff don't drop out of it as he runs back up and places all his items in it.

Back home he sits on the Kitchen table and watches some news on his laptop while eating Ramen. Xpress News highlights "another 70% layoff from the second biggest company in the world", rolling his eyes he puts away the food and reaches for his backpack. Grabbing for his homework he notices a weird folder titled "For Human eyes only", wondering if a student has accidentally put it in his bag he opens it up and sees his last name in the corner of the Binder dated 2022. "Dad" he lets out softly as he looks over to the other side and starts reading the text under the title "Warning, make sure you are not being filmed before reading further, this is crucial".

Living with his grandparents, Billy knew for a fact that there were no cameras anywhere in his house, even if they had a security system, what difference would that make if a camera was around when reading it? He wonders how paranoid his dad must've been back in the day or how deep into the protester group he must've been to even think someone would constantly be spying on him. His curiosity got the better of him as he closed the laptop and went upstairs to his room, postponing his homework to read about what his dad may have written almost 10 years ago.

He put on the light on the night table and opened the next page while laying in his bed. He was surprised that this page was written by hand instead of being printed out like the warning page, maybe they used those warning pages on many different notebooks within the group. "Oh no" he mutters as he realizes it's all in cursive. As he deciphers the title he finds himself wanting to read more.

"1. Stop cryptocurrency adoption at all cost"

Hey guys, figured I'd free write some Sci-Fi. I've been super busy lately regarding Steem apps but every once in a while I've found myself watching videos about scientists discussing the future. I don't want to talk too much about what as I think it might spoil this story, but I'll probably add some references of videos and posts that inspired me to write this in the near future. Please be aware that english is not my first language and this will be a series of just writing whatever pops into my head which there no doubt will be a lot of errors in the story or possible outcomes and grammar.

If you enjoyed it though and would like to hear more, let me know. I may have some cool ideas on how to make this a fun little story from the future. ;)

Sort:

Ramen and laptop keyboards are not always a good combination. Of course, I’m only logically deducting this... I wouldn’t know such from experience. 🙄

Rewarding 100% 13min

While others may be simply "looking forward to the next one", I'm looking forward to the next one AND you sharing you source(s) of inspiration like you mentioned within the lines.

Ps: I knew English isn't your first language when I read the history of your name a long time ago when you participate in one challenge. However, I think this has never reflected in any your posts.

Do have a great day ahead!

I liked it. English may not be your first language, but I've never been able to tell.

"1. Stop cryptocurrency adoption at all cost"

This line makes me think it might turn out to be a horror story more than a sci-fi story. :) Looking forward to the next one.

You might not be completely wrong. :D
