Some Of The Weirdest Things I Have Seen As A Vet

in #science8 years ago (edited)

From my early childhood, I wanted to become a veterinarian. Overtime, I’ve changed my mind hundreds of times but finally I became one!

When I was younger I thought that, ‘if an animal is ill, I will treat it and everything will be ok.’ I grew up realizing it wasn’t exactly like I thought it would be!

As a vet you will have a huge responsibility on your shoulders as the work requires your complete dedication. You wake up every day curious to see what your next big challenge will be. It's not for everybody.

I've seen many strange things during my career and I would like to show you all of them. But, that would take a month to write. So, I’ve chosen a few rare cases that are representative of my ‘crazy’ daily encounters.

The Stone Eater

A woman once visited the clinic I work at asking me why her dog was apathetic. It wasn’t moving since the previous night and had difficulty breathing. After some standard diagnostic procedures I chose to do a radiography and this is what popped up in front of my eyes.

Yes! The dog had eaten 92 stones!

The Crocodile Eater

This tiny fella was brought in late at night because it was in pain. The owner found the dog slightly bloated and thought that she be feeding him too much. But, during the palpation check I realised that there was something wrong and a radiography test was necessary.

Apparently, it had eaten a crocodile!

She was pregnant as well as bloated and the foetus was way too big for her tiny body. Without surgery both could have died and ergo I proceeded.

The surgery was a success and today the dog and it’s pups are alive and kicking.

Unexplainable For The Time Being

Urine’s analysis that i’m unsure about even today, but I find it incredibly fascinating.

Oocyst linked together with an air bubble? I don’t know, but its incredible!

This happened recently so I’m still awaiting other test results.

The hardest part of my job is to deal with pet owners and some customers. Believe me it's crazy! Here are 3 of the craziest customers that the admin and colleagues from my vet clinic have shared with me.

Should I be scared of the ginger cat or it’s owner?

Do you think she loves the cat???

This one doesn’t need any comment… it was sent by a friend from USA!

ps: how is going your post?

Reminds me of the time our clinic found a silicone BBQ brush inside a dog. I discovered that silicone shows up very nicely on a radiograph!

Also, in the radiograph of the crocodile-eating dog, I am assuming it's the puppy we see, poking it's head through the pelvis?

Exactly Alex! Ahahha thanks God I haven't seen yet the silicone haaahah will seen if will happen :)

What on Earth???!!!

Some are really worrisome... brrrrr
