Why can i see through glass?

in #science7 years ago

So recently i got into a converstion with my friend and he asked me why glass is trasperent so i was about to expalin to him what is the energy gap and how it works (which i'll explain later in the blog) and then he said "You know what i'm sick of you explaining everything to me lets check google" and in google i saw a few articles that says that glass is basicly closer to liquid then solid which COULDN'T be further then the truth.

So why glass is traserent?

in see through matiriels like glass or diamond the amount of energy that takes to move an electron from a ground state to a higher state is huge so when photoms (light) go throgth the matiral they dont have enougth energy to move the electrons from the ground state to a higher state thus making glass and and similar matirels see though.

Footnote: electrones cannot be in a bettwen state which means they are either in a high state or a low state.

ty for reading if you have a topic you want me to disccus next please tell me or if you want me to explain anything please state that aswell have a great day!
