The Effects of Food Deprivation

Admit it, we all want that slim, sexy, fit body, especially this new year. We want to look good to gain confidence in ourselves. Even some of us are willing to take risky measures such as food deprivation just to achieve that bod.

But is it really worth it?

First, what is food deprivation?

According to psychology.wikia.com

Food deprivation is the restriction of free access to food, particularly in experimental settings where it is used as a technique to manipulate organisms to work for rewards and to establish levels of motivation.

Food deprivation is life threatening.

Our body and brain require a steady supply of food and nutrients to function properly. We are dependent on food to work and maintain our life.

FOOD DEPRIVATION EFFECTS

LOSS OF BODY ENERGY AND DISRUPT OF BLOOD SUGAR LEVEL.
The body needs all the essential nutrients and calories to maintain its homeostasis and growth properly. Your body adapts to a lack of food by reducing your metabolic rate to conserve energy. Because glucose is the primary fuel source, fatigue sets in once glucose reserves are depleted.

Going several hours without food can disrupt blood sugar control. Blood sugar imbalances can cause a host of bothersome effects including mood swings, headaches, trembling, sweating and fatigue.

According to a study entitled "Journal of Nutrition", published on December 2005, lack of food affects the academic performance of school-aged children.

MENTAL CHANGES.
It not only affects one body but may also lead to mental changes. Our brain needs glucose and energy all the time to carry out its central functions.

A food deprived person may experienced periods of severe emotional distress and depression and grew increasingly irritable.

In case body is running low glucose as a consequence of food deprivation, the brain will stop functioning.

NUTRIENT DEFICIENCY.
Eating nothing means you are likely to miss out on vitamins C and D, iron, calcium and fiber, according to Columbia University. While some of these deficiencies won't cause immediate problems, consuming too little fiber daily -- adults need 25 to 35 grams -- is a leading cause of constipation. And lack of iron, folate or vitamin B-12 can cause anemia, a condition in which your body produces too few red blood cells.

STARVATION AND ITS DETRIMENTAL EFFECT

Starvation will cause a person of losing his muscle bulk and will become thin and lean. All the body fats and proteins are utilized to supply energy to the body.

With the loss of stored nutrients, the internal bodies, as well as organs, are affected badly. They undergo breakdown. The body finds it difficult to carry its normal function and may lead to failure of digestion and diarrhea and vomiting. The body will be further depleted of basic electrolytes and if continuous vicious cycle occurs, it may even lead to body deterioration. Heart function may fail and oxygen deprivation may occur. Death may be possible if not given immediate medical care.

Depriving your body of sufficient carbohydrates, fats, proteins, and vitamins will give you the risk of various dangerous diseases. Depriving yourself of food in order to get in shape and lose weight is not worth it! This will ultimately leads to more food cravings thus further adds more agony and pain.

PROPER DIET AND EXERCISE IS STILL THE BEST WAY TO GET THAT HEALTHY, FIT AND SEXY BODY.

Best tips to achieve that bod:

Eat smaller meals 3-5 times per day.
Eat nutrient dense foods such as whole grains, lean proteins, fruits, and vegetables.
Eat slowly, and wait 10-15 minutes before taking second helpings.
Don't eliminate everything you like from your diet. Eat those things in small amounts (pizza, candy, cookies, etc.).
Prepare healthy snacks that are easily available (cut carrots, apples, etc.).
Avoid buffets.
Drink plenty of water, especially immediately before meals.
Exercise at least 30 mins a day.

Nice article. There are also advantages of intermittent fasting must be considered. It gives our digestion a chance to rest and repair. Fasting also trains our body to switch fuel source from sugar to fat. Fasting can also bring mental clarity. Exercise is really not a factor because, after exercise, people will eat more. And most people already exercise unless they are sitting on wheel chair. Diet and intermittent fasting are two controlling keys for our health and healthy weight.

Nice article.
I wanna be fit but I don't wanna starve myself. I hope this will work.
