Waiting For The Sun / Güneşi Beklerken

Summer came late to Istanbul. The weather was usually cloudy and rainy in May. Fortunately, yesterday we woke up to a bright, shiny day. It's also sunny today. The sun shining outside makes me happy.

The sun, which is the source of life in the world, has become one of the most important choices for energy production in recent years. Solar energy production techologies are rapidly evolving, and the unit production costs of this technology are steadily decreasing. According to the work of futurist Ray Kurzweil, who is currently the chief engineer at Google, the cost of generating energy from the sun has been decreasing by 20% every year for a long time. This is why solar energy doubles the share in the world's energy production every two years. In 2012, the share of solar energy in the world's energy production was %0,5 and it rose to 2% in 2016. Kurzweil foresees that most of the world's energy production will be derived from solar energy in 2028.

Solar energy is the source of all types of energy used in the world. Fossil fuels, such as coal and oil, express the way solar energy has been transformed by plants in the past. The source of energy from wind and streams is also the sun. As we all know, the wind is the result of the local heat differences caused by the sun, and the stream cycle is possible thanks to the water that the sun has evaporated.

The sun and the other stars are not only our source of energy, but they are the places where carbon, the basic building block of our bodies is produced. As it is said in the famous quote:"We're all star dusts". Metals and heavy elements are also formed in the stars that are giant radioactive furnaces and scattered around the space from stars.

Ancient civilizations have grasped the decisive position of the sun in our lives. It is not in vain that the greatest God of Ancient Egypt is the sun God RA.

The sun, the only source of energy in our world, is used in poetry and songs to point out bright, beautiful days. As in the first quaternary of the poem "Optimism" written by Turkish socialist poet Nazım Hikmet in 1930:

We'll see nice days, children
We'll see sunny days
We'll drive the boats through the blues, children
We'll drive through bright blues

The lyrics of the song "Waiting for the sun" from the legendary rock band The Doors' Morrison Hotel album are also expressing the feelings that is eraused by the sun.

At first flash of Eden
We race down to the sea
Standing there on freedom's shore

Waiting for the sun (x3)

Can you feel it
Now that Spring has come
That it's time to live in the scattered sun

Waiting for the sun (x3)
Waiting,,(x8)
Waiting for you to come along
Waiting for you to hear my song
Waiting for you to come along
Waiting for you to tell me what went wrong

This is the strangest life I've ever known

Can you feel it
Now that Spring has come
That it's time to live in the scattered sun.

Waiting for the sun (x4)

The famous character of Greek mythology, Icarus, escaped from the prison of Labyrenthos with the wings he made from wax and feather. Before flying from prison to freedom, his father warned him that if he would fly too close to the sea his wings would be damaged by moisture and his wax wings would melt if he approached the sun. Icarus was one of the most beloved characters of Greek mythology with this adventure, even though the sense of freedom and the ambition to rise to higher prepared the end of him.

The sun is very generous to us as long as we are not too close to it, as in the science fiction movie Sunlight or as in the adventure of Icarus. The amount of sunlight falling on earth is at a level that can meet the world's total energy needs thousands of times. It doesn't seem rational to use fossil-based fuels instead of taking direct advantage of the sunlight that has spilled generously on us. Last year Germany achieved 85% of all energy needs from renewable energy such as wind, stream and solar energy one day and set a new record to protect the environment.

Elon Musk, the popular name in the technology world, makes great investments because he believes the future of solar energy. In addition to the production of roofing materials also used as solar panels, it has recently been suggested that the will build a giant solar power plant in Northern Australia to meet the energy needs of 50,000 homes. news link

In China, the panda-shaped giant solar power plant, which was founded last year, was also an interesting news about solar energy.

As our topic is the sun and as it is Sunday today, I will not be able to pass the poem "Today Is Sunday" written by Turkish poet Nazım Hikmet when he was in prison.

Today is Sunday...
Today, for the first time
I'm out in the sun.
And I didn't know
The sky was
So far away from me,
It's blue,
It's so wide,
I stood still
Then, respectfully, I sat on the ground,
Put my back on the wall.
At this moment;
Neither falling into the waves.
At this moment;
No struggle, no freedom, no wife.
The soil,
The sun and
Me...
I'm happy…

It's now time for me to go out and take a walk in the sun.

Thanks for reading.

Güneşi Beklerken

Bu yıl İstanbul'a yaz biraz geç geldi.

Efsanevi rock grubu The Doors'un Morrison Hotel albümündeki "Güneşi Beklerken" şarkısının sözleri de güneşin uyandırdığı duyguları güzel anlatıyor.

Konu güneş ve bugün günlerden Pazar olunca yine Nazım Hikmet'in hapisteyken yazdığı "Bugün Pazar" isimli şiirini anmadan geçemeyeceğim.

Bugün pazar...
Bugün, beni ilk defa
Güneşe çıkardılar.
Ve ben, ömrümde ilk defa
Gökyüzünün
Bu kadar benden uzak,
Bu kadar mavi,
Bu kadar geniş olduğuna şaşarak,
Kımıldamadan durdum
Sonra, saygıyla toprağa oturdum,
Dayadım sırtımı duvara.
Bu anda;
Ne düşmek dalgalara,
Bu anda;
Ne kavga, ne hürriyet, ne karım.
Toprak,
Güneş ve
Ben...

I had a stay at Istanbul airport. When the plane is about to land the view of Istanbul is very beautiful. It is I think located at the corner of sea so that edged make this city so attractive.

Istanbul is surrounded by Black Sea, Bosphorus, Golden Horn and Marmara Sea. Water and history make the cities attractive I suppose

Nice
Thanks for the tips .. It's at the heart of the problem
Post amazing .. Well done..

You blow me away!

wow unreal picx

Love the photo.

The ancient Civilizations new about the real benefits of the sun. In many cultures they practiced sun gazing to feed on the sun's energy. Istanbul is very nice city :)

I migrated from Ankara, the capital city of Turkey, because I liked Bosphorus and the historic buildings

I also lived there for three years and loved it :)

WE have yet to learn from these ancient civilisations, I do anyway. The Incas and Aztecs for one. I have yet to do my South American tour... but definitely on the table in the next 2 years.

I am pleased to learn new information about the sun. It always amazes me that our bodies can get free Vitamin D from the sun, even though some people buy Vitamin D by prescription. Also I loved both of the poems that you embedded. Thanks for a great post.

Thank you🙂🙂

If one day Solar energy is the source of energy in homes even 50%, humanity would save many expenses and the environment will be grateful, we need to know how far the economic interests of the economic models come, some are still missing years for this to be a reality!

The sun truly is a magnificent thing. And I like the idea of you saying that we are made of stardust. Sounds quite strong and flavorful, if you think about it.

I also feel the need to watch or read "Stardust Crusaders" again.

from one sun worshiper to another, may the vitamin! D hit you where you need. Indeed the electron will bleed into a further need to exceed the brilliance of a seed. In turn the seed will give to me the blessings of non greed. 20180528 white-lie-living.jpg

Sunlight and darkness trigger the release of hormones in your brain. Exposure to sunlight is thought to increase the brain's release of a hormone called serotonin. Serotonin is associated with boosting mood and helping a person feel calm and focused.

Those were the additional words (facts) I would have liked to have used in my initial comment.

Sun Beach & Sand

Are three magical words of SUMMER 💕

I like being on the beach too😎

It's very beautiful. I really enjoyed it. The new world moves toward technology and solar energy.

I am a sun person. It makes me happy when the outside is warm and bright with the sunshine. I've never been to Istanbul. I hope to visit there someday! :)

Istanbul is a strange city, it is worth visiting 🤠

I can't wait! :)

A question that comes to me is:
The energy taken from sunlight, where does it 'not go' ?
What i mean is, when no solar panel catch this energy, the potential is still there, part of it goes back to space, part of it goes to greenhouse effect, and part of it heat the earth.
Anyone knows the change induced to this repartition with solar energy production?
Don't mind me, I'm still a strong solar energy believer, i'm just wondering...

That's why in all the ancient civilisations the "Sun" is the "Light" hence God. As mankind learned to harness the "Sun's" gift of life, they started "organised" agriculture, and prayed to the "Sun (GOD) so that "GOD" would provide the "Light" for their harvest.

The dark (night), and not the "Light", was the "evil" side, where it did not provide anything positive as opposed to "GOD", the Sun's light.

Fantastic post, well researched and fabulous choice of photos. Amazing what the Chinese are capable of.

#resteem #resteemed

You inspired me to write an article about night and darkness🙂

@muratkbesiroglu I'm sure it will be even better, look forward to reading it.

Looks abeolutely great the sun. It is been a significant part of our.lives and will always be. The main source of energy. The sun

sun is the most important thing that one can have in life. it carries great syrategic importance apart from scenic view.

Oh this is beautiful, thank you for this~ all of it:)

Thanks 🙂🙃

Last few days I have read lots of trending post, all are about diffrents aps promotion or something like that, your post really make me happy. It seems like Billboard charts rap songs are trending over beautifull pop songs, your post is like "Shape of you" over Cardi B's "Bodak yellow" :)

I prefer rock songs, but pop songs are also ok 😃

And also I special thanks for remind poet Nazım Hikmet. He is a great value for Turkey and world.

It was the anniversary of Nazım Hikmet's death yesterday. It was an interesting coincidence, I learned after publishing the article.

Beauty of nature

There is no better place to wait for it than in Istanbul isn't it?

Yes it is 🤠
