Researchers of Stockholm University and university of Uppsala have found new proofs of existence of female warriors in ancient Vikings. Analyses of DNA of remains from the burial (which is presumably relating to the X century) on the island of Bjorko, found in the 19th century have been for this purpose carried out.

Besides human bones in a grave there were remains of two horses, a sword, armor-piercing arrows and ancient board game. All this indicated the high status of the buried soldier. Long time was considered that he is a man, but the analysis of DNA has sorted things out.

In DNA extracted from bones there were no Y-chromosomes, but there were two H-chromosomes that happens only at women. The ancient warrior led a nomadic life that was characteristic of the people inhabiting Northern Europe in the VIII-X centuries.
