In addition to solar energy, wind energy is one of the most promising sources of energy, in fact, it is impressive how wind turbines have evolved in size and power in recent decades, reaching almost three hundred meters in height and each of the blades is more than a hundred meters long.

But everything has a limit and it seems that this type of generators are reaching it, which is why revolutionary turbine systems have recently appeared that promise to generate the same amount of energy but at a much lower cost. In this line, the American company Airloom Energy has contributed its grain of sand.

Pero todo tiene un límite y parece que este tipo de generadores lo están alcanzando, por eso últimamente aparecen sistemas de turbinas revolucionarios que prometen generar la misma cantidad de energía pero a un coste mucho menor. En esta línea la empresa estadounidense Airloom Energy ha aportado su granito de arena.

The solution proposed by AirLoom uses 10 m long blades placed vertically on cables that extend along 25 m high poles, placed to form an oval that, according to its developers, will be able to develop the same energy production capacity as wind turbines but with a lower cost and another series of advantages.

La solución propuesta por AirLoom utiliza aspas de 10 m de longitud colocadas verticalmente sobre cables que se extienden a lo largo de postes de 25 m de altura colocados formando un óvalo que, según sus desarrolladores, podrá desarrollar la misma capacidad de producción de energía que los aerogeneradores pero con un menor coste y otra serie de ventajas.

Among the advantages offered by this system are a cost that will be a tenth of the cost of a conventional generator and a quarter of the cost of setting up a wind farm. Its modular design makes it easy to transport one of these modules in a normal truck and can be installed both horizontally and vertically and on land or in the sea.

Entre las ventajas que ofrece este sistema están un coste que será una décima parte del coste de un generador convencional y una cuarta parte del coste de montar un parque eólico, su diseño modular facilita el transporte de uno de estos módulos en un camión normal y puede instalarse tanto horizontal como verticalmente y en la tierra o en el mar.

This modular system also allows the installation of these turbines near existing electrical installations, in addition to generating much less environmental impact, not only aesthetic but much safer for birds and bats, potentially generating more energy per surface area than a traditional wind farm because it requires less space between turbines.

Con todo esto vuelvo a reiterarme en mi afirmación de que, en una década, la energía será super barata si no gratuita, aunque me temo que estos políticos desalmados que nos gobiernan encontrarán la forma de hundir sus garras en el pastel y como dijo Milton Friedman "Si pones al gobierno a cargo del desierto del Sahara, en cinco años habría escasez de arena".
