Because climate change Antarctica becomes a green continent, say experts, writes Focus. Scientists studying Antarctic moss, found that the quantity and rate of growth increased sharply in the last 50, which suggests that the continent can have a greener future.
"Antarctica will not become entirely green, but will be greener than it is now," said Matt Amesbury, co-author of the famous University of Exeter.
"This is related to other processes that are currently taking place on the Antarctic Peninsula, especially receding glaciers that release land without ice and moss very effectively colonize these areas," says the specialist.
In the second half of the 20th century, the temperature of the Antarctic Peninsula has increased by about half a degree every decade.
