Large computer networks are ripe targets for hackers, and the computers that make up CERN's grid are no exception. Traditional computer security involves scanning network traffic for known viruses and worms, but such security offers little protection against zero day threats from previously unknown malware. To counteract such threats, the cybersecurity team at CERN is employing and training artificial intelligence to stay one step ahead of hackers. This article on Scientific American tells the story.
