There are Aliens out there, even if we don't have proof now, in Theory there must be other races living outside of our planet. The universe is a vast place, very big and there is a slight chance that other planets have the same basics like ours. The optimal distance, atmosphere, and so on. In a scientific view, bacteria were created by mixing minerals together, evolution did the rest. It takes a hell of a lot time to evolve into a sentient being but if given enough time and material, life can advance. Most likely there won't be much life in this galaxy because the odds are slim, still not entirely null. Also there would be probably certain struggle in those races as well, war, hatred and so on. Even if we don't know, other races on our planet have emotions, they are basic survival instincts. So aliens have them as well (in my opinion) and with emotion comes war, peace and so on. I am quite sure that the first contact will not be in our life-time, but maybe in a millenia after we traveled to a few other planets. Signals for example can travel through space but in a much slower speed than light and if a alien race is far advanced they might pick it up and answer us. But that is all a theory, a game theory. Jokes aside.
It doesn't take a scientist to create theories about alien life, we just have to look at our planet and how we have evolved.
I think we'll probably find signs of alien life in our lifetime (hell, maybe even this year), but it won't be advanced life, it'll be like some bacteria on a moon somewhere.
If it is bacteria, we have already found it on meteorites that crashed on this planet. As you see, asteroid are made up of ice, stone and other ore. Those asteroids of course came from another planet and they have traveled for a long time, at some point their path meets another planet. There is a theory that this is the reason life developed on earth, that our heritage is not earth but another planet. This could be right or wrong, we wouldn't know for sure.
What I was talking about was advanced life, in the current physiological state that we are, probably even more advanced. Humanity meeting such a race will take a long time because of evolution. A possibility would be witnessing animals on other planets if we would travel to other earth like planets.
EDIT: What I have forgotten to mention about the asteroids, in this ice, there are bacteria frozen inside. How that is possible, I am not sure, what I think is that a meteorite crashed on a planet and from the shockwave/explosion took a small part of the planet and ejected it to space.
Who knows
I agree with you there! Also, I was only half joking when I said I hope aliens aren't like us. Hawking made the point that going by the only model of advanced life we have (i.e., us), we should definitely not be sending signals into space. He reckons there are hostile vagabond species out there who have used up all the resources on their planets and will end up invading.
We won't know. Everyone has their own culture, there could be some that are hostile or welcoming, how would we react? In media, aliens are presented as advanced invaders and this mindset has put a mark on humanity. In history, we were always cautious when discovering something new and not only that, we were always a violent race, conquering other countries to gain total control. If aliens visited us, we would back away and try to defend ourselves. If we would be the one who visit another planet full of sentient life, how would we react? What would we do?
It depends on the situation we are in, nowadays we are a curious race, we would probably try to make peace with them, getting to know each other, but the problem is how would we communicate? Maybe using a omnilanguage like binary codes or even using the period system because atoms are always the same.
For now, we can just dream and imagine.
I also like the idea of communicating with music (as in Close Encounters). There is a mathematical underpinning to music, with the most harmonious sounds having the simplest mathematical relationships, so it's likely other species will respond to music in a similar way to us... That is... if they have ears... This conversation has made me want to rewatch Arrival (highly recommended if you havent seen it!).
I am 66. When I was in high school, I attended a class at Northwestern University taught by J Allen Hynek. He was a participant in Project Blue Book. The Anunnaki consider this planet part of their empire. They consider themselves in charge of this planet. Aliens are all over the place. Governments have been trading cooperation for technology for decades.

No, I haven't watched it, but I sure will. Thanks for mentioning.
