RE: The Building Blocks of Life - Basics

in #science7 years ago
21 amino acids are the building blocks of our proteins.
Thanks for the enlightenment, however I have few questions hope you don't mind. 1.Are amino acids the end product of proteins. 2. When the talk about altering of DNA, what components or elements are altered?
The main atoms our body is compromised of are carbon, hydrogen, oxygen, and nitrogen. There are some others like sulfur and phosphor
3. What activities is carried out by nitrogen in our body? 4. Did you mean phosphorus? Thanks you for sharing, I guess if I should follow this series closely I should get my biology back on track. Thank you

  1. Amino acids are the building blocks of proteins. Like lego! If you build a castle, that's the protein and the single blocks are the amino acids.

  2. When we alter DNA, we usually switch one base for another (for example A for C) or remove one. This leads to a different mRNA and thus different protein.

  3. Nitrogen has different jobs, it's a very important part of amino acids (see the structure I drew)

  4. Yes and now I'm too lazy to correct it. It's phosphor in German.
