Hope you all doing well, energy is the thing that always be an interesting thing to discuss. Every country spends a lot of budget on exploring, extracting and researching the energy. Most energy come from the fossil fuel, but the entire scientist have estimated about run out energy resources from fossil fuel. The renewable energy was the next hope to accommodate the need of energy, much research has been conducted regarding renewable energy to alternate the lack of energy in the future.Wind energy, solar energy, water, energy and biomass energy, becoming the most exciting research among the researcher and student in every university all over the world. In this post I want to discuss about expansion the renewable energy from the sun, or well-known as solar energy.

Silicon Solar Cell

In 2007 the researcher from University Of Delaware has been done optimization of solar cell with 42, 8 % efficiency and this is the profound of mass production of solar cell and drive out the commercialization solar cell as electric source. The solar cell is classified within the clean energy harvester; this energy did not produce any pollution. However to have the solar panel that’s mean you have to spend a lot of money on it, due to expensive producing technologies of silicon solar cell.

Advantage of silicon solar cell
• Solar cell based silicon wafer have high 80 % efficiency,
• longer lasting material,
• non toxic

Disadvantage of silicon solar cell
• Manufacturing process Use a relatively large amount of Expensive Silicon
• High temperature will reduce the efficiency,
• Fragile

The Dye-Sensitized Solar Cell (DSSC)

The advantageous solar cell needs to meet the requirement which is high cell conversion efficiency, low cost material for fabrication, easy made, easy to operate, durable and possible to utilize for a long period of time. DSSC (dye sensitized solar cell) is the one of development to answer the need of a solar energy harvester, due to the expensive price of solar cell base silicon. The DSSC work as the natural photosynthesis by absorbing the solar irradiance and convert it to energy. The solar directly absorb by the layer of a DSSC with a mesoporous surface consist of semiconductor oxide material synthesis, to let electronic conduction occur. Photon excitation of the sensitizer dye yields the injection of an electron into the conduction band of the oxide material layer, to generate the oxidized form of the dye layer. The ground state of the dye is afterward replaced by electrons from the electrolyte reluctant.

Advantage Dye-Sensitized Solar Cell (DSSC)

• cheaper cost per watt
• time save
• easy to install on the rooftop and need less manpower
• possible to use at fitting panels on light or flexible materials

Disadvantage Dye-Sensitized Solar Cell (DSSC)

• Lower efficiency comparing to silicon solar cell
• Broad spectral absorption range

Conclusion

The solar cell is one of renewable and clean energy which is attract much attention not only researcher, private company and government regarding providing sustainable energy resources. Solar silicon and DSSC is a type of solar energy harvester with different advantage and disadvantage. Base on my own experience DSSC is can be produced only with a simple lab tools and device. Instead of, producing solar cell base on silicon wafer that’s needed sophisticated laboratory device and tools.
