We have all at a point in time wondered why the sky looks blue. Actually, beyond the horizon, the sky is totally dark but, from earth 🌍, it appears blue. What accounts for this?
Light from the sun is white and white light comprises of seven colours which are Red, Orange, yellow, Green, Blue, Indigo and Violet (ROYGBIV). This colours can be seen when light is dispersed by a glass prism.
Blue light has very short waves and as such is most scattered, reflected and dispersed by shiny smooth surfaces.
There are very tiny particles and aerosols in the atmosphere that we can't see. When the sun shines and its rays fall on these tiny particles and aerosols, they are scattered, reflected and dispersed back unto the sky of which the blue colour has the most reflections and dispersion because of its short waves.
When they fall unto the sky, they give the sky its beautiful sea-blue colour.
Good job. This phenomenon is called Rayleigh Scattering.
Take care! :)
Thanks, man. Take care too 😊
Keep it up ;)
