IIUC this demethylation that affects paternal DNA so much is only a type of DNA modification, so we haven't even gotten to histone modification yet. I wonder if sexual asymmetry in demethylation is a mammal thing, a vertebrate thing, an animal thing — or if non-animal organisms with sexual reproduction also have the same thing happening?
I think one of the papers specifically said "mammal", but I can't be 100% sure if it's really the only case.
