Can a simple piece of gum cause more harm then good?
Chewing gum is very common around the world and its been common for 5000 years, yes your read that right, five thousand years! It helps us when we're anxious, it helps us manage stress and most importantly it helps us when our breath stinks. Some gum creates positive oral health benefits such as a protection against tooth decay which is why it is back by dentists. The chewing of the gum creates more saliva allowing you to get rid of food particles a lot faster.
So is Gum really good for you?
Yes and no. Some gum manufacturers create their gum with a high quantity of sugar. Although this can be great in dealing with sugary cravings and promote weight loss, the sugar helps feed the bacteria in your mouth. This creates what everyone knows as a cavity and the reason we hate the dentist.
"Brian, there is sugar free gum..."
Yes that's understandable, but sugar free gum contains ingredients that might sound healthy but arent. Most sugar free gum contains aspartame which it said to be linked with reduced sperm count, brain tumors, birth defects, diabetes and cancer.

Excessive gum chewing can also be linked to TMJ which is a jaw disorder. It can ruin your cartilage and put some wear on the joints causing long term ailments. Ok fine, those pills do work, but what if I told you chewing gum lead to weight gain? Like I mentioned earlier, chewing gum stimulates the production of saliva, although this can lead to the removal of food particles, its hindering your metabolic rate. And a slow metabolism means extra LB's. No bueno.

Yes you can, but can you run or walk a few laps if your stomach hurt? Chewing gum creates an excess of swallowed air creating which can create bloating and gas and if youre one with a sensitive stomach this can make things a lot worse FAST. So while you're on your first date and your breath smells good don't let one slip away from you.
Conclusion
Although gum is very common and helps us reduce stress and stimulate are brain, it can also be harmful to the human body. It can lead to all sorts of health issues down the line all for what? Have you ever noticed the gum doesnt cure bad breath? it might for a few minutes, but once you spit it out, it comes right back. Chewing gum is not worth it. There are other alternatives that create the same effects of chewing gum without the health risks.

Im sure gum has its pro's, but with the amount of health risks that associate with it. Ill stay away. Not fully, but I wont abuse it like some people
to not talk about all the gum is found on the seats of the bus and trains and floors... that is what irritates me. But about health, you are totaly right. And if you have letten your theet done, you can pull it back out, that what happend me for a few times. Thank you for the post, enjoyed it.

I don't chew gum that has sugar because it hurts my teeth, and I don't need the extra calories lol
