Hey Science Steemians,
I have a question... a rather broad one. Evolution? I don't understand it... or perhaps I do and it really just doesn't make sense. I always end up with more questions than I had to begin with. If anyone could help educate me on it I would be very grateful.
Same here. Look around you. People are getting dumber, not smarter.
Ideocracy was not science fiction.
No kidding. So maybe evolution is actually true...it's just working in reverse. Let's call it devolution.
haha! Sounds about right :)
It just seems like people are getting dumber, Eventually, something will happen and natural selection will be forced to make an IQ correction.
First thing you should know is that it is a theory and not fact. Therefore likely to be full of holes.
Personally I choose to believe we were put here and did not evolve from apes.
Look up the Annunaki if you haven't already. The earliest known civilisation the Sumerians describe them in their written history.
We were born to be slaves. And most of us are still slaves today.
And FYI, I like your approach of starting a discussion...
I know haha, I am actually a christian and so believe we were created by God. But in order to justify this against other beliefs i.e evolution, I know that I should first educate myself as fully as possible on the subject. And thank you, I though that would be the best way to catch peoples eye :)
First, you may be misunderstanding the difference between a scientific theory and how people use the word colloquially.
A scientific theory is a well-substantiated explanation of some aspect of the natural world, based on a body of facts that have been repeatedly confirmed through observation and experiment. Such fact-supported theories are not "guesses" but reliable accounts of the real world. Definition
This is why we still have things like the theory of gravity or germ theory.
I would rather not think about how we got here, instead think of how we can make here better. Why waste time trying to figure out something that once you have the answer, that's all you will have. I can't think of any benefits of knowing the answer to where we come from? Just my opinion.
That's a fair opinion, and for the limited time length of our lifetimes on this world it works, but then what about the "next". If there is more than just this world and this life then surely it is paramount to understand where we came from and what this means for after death
There are lots of theories. We will never know 100% for sure. If you really believe Evolution is BS, what is your theory of how we got here? Do you believe in a creator/god putting us here made out of clay? of Aliens manipulating the genes of monkeys to make a worker class to serve them? Of aliens breeding with proto-humans, of spontaneous humans just showed up here one day, of aliens surviving a galactic war and settling here? What is your theory? That way someone can say your theory is BS like how you say Evolution is BS.
I do really believe that evolution is BS but to be honest titling this post in the way I did was largely to catch and evolutionists eye, making the likelihood of an answer higher. I am personally a creationist. But in order to discuss and dispute other beliefs against my own I desire first to understand the opposing belief as fully as possible.
I am also not necessarily arguing for or insisting that I am right, rather that evolution is wrong. Which, given that it is taught in education as fact, I feel that it is an "evolutionists" place to prove to me they are right rather than the other way round
Aren't you just kicking the can? If you are positing that we must have been created... then what created the creator?
Me either. You might find this lecture by Manly P. Hall interesting.
