particle & wave - ideas realized

in #sci-fi7 years ago

Mike jolted awake. His awakening devices were all set to their maximum limits because he wasn’t willing to waste a moment that he could be using to change the present; he literally did not care about anything else. Before the fine mist of aromatic stimulants and essential oils, had fallen half way to the ground, he was already busy in the other room double checking his itinerary for the day he had been iteratively planning for the last several weeks.

Since this wasn’t his first attempt to change his present life situation by tampering with the events of the past, he knew that at the second he started to deviate from the script of the past memory the whole experience of the memory would begin to decay as it became dissimilar, even in infinitesimal ways, to the original event. This was essentially the same challenge that Mike failed to solve over all these years. From the perspective of the past, changing an experience of a memory was like visiting the future. So to avoid being jerked back into the present leaving whatever infinitesimal progress he had made in nudging the past off its original course, he programmed his memulator to update the memory with whatever changes had taken place and to return him immediately back to the exact moment prior to the point that the memory had decayed beyond recollection.

He believed this would create enough continuity in the experience to be able to influence the trajectory of the past. Mike hypothesized that if he managed to bump his memory of the past beyond a certain threshold his vision of how the event would occur would begin to take hold and the memory itself would change. This is basically how he had been trying to visit the future, albeit unsuccessfully. But this time, his plan had to work. It had to work because he couldn’t bear the thought of never seeing her again in the present.p&w_logo.PNG
