Sophia; First Robot citizen. Should Robots be granted citizenship

in #sci-fi7 years ago

The future is here!!!
Yes the future we watch on sci-fi movies is happening in our time.

I present to you Sophia
I guess you're probably wondering who Sophia is, well I hate to burst your bubble, Sophia isn't human, Sophia is a robot that has more right than human women in Saudi Arabia.

On Wednesday , 25th October 2017, an unprecedented event , the first of its kind on man's planet earth took place, man made an inanimate robot a citizen in Saudi Arabia.
The question I keep asking is " where did we get it wrong?" How have we condescended and decayed so badly on matters about freedom and Rights as to how and whom we administer them to? giving animate attributes to inanimate things.
What this entails is that he will have rights, like right to vote and be voted for, the list goes on you know.

Well The humanoid recently granted an interview where she said that she “would be nice to us if we are nice to her.” First off, it’s just weird to quote what a robot said in an interview but is it just me or was that a threat? And what does her artificial intelligence consider nice?

Sophia Robot, an advanced lifelike humanoid robot, spoke on October 25 at a panel on robotics and artificial intelligence at the Future Investment Initiative (FII) conference in Riyadh, shortly before being declared a citizen of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the first country to grant citizenship to a robot

Sophia was built by Hong Kong-based Hanson Robotics Ltd., which says its humanlike robots have remarkable expressiveness, aesthetics, and interactivity.

Futurist Ray Kurzweil predicts the day man melds with the machine will be 2029, so granting rights might just be a moot point if we end up assimilating into a half man/half machine race of futuristic cyborgs..artificial intelligence is a fundamental existential risk for human civilization, and I don't think people fully appreciate that," he said.

What are your thoughts on this??.

I just dey hear this one oh. This is serious, grant citizenship to robot.
Well nice post.

Thanks for dropping by @princeso
Well i hope there is a limit what sophia's rights are as the first robot citizen.

it cant have rights it is not a being.

Its not a being@briankerr no doubt, but it goes without saying you know, being a citizen of a nation comes with its rights, which is the very essence of citizenship. You being a citizen of your country means you have rights too.

What are we going to call it's rights? Fundamental robot rights? This is total crap.

Great post tho

I still wanna believe it will be revoked someday, robots are not humans and can never be humans

Thanks for stopping by

I hope it's revoked.

You welcome!
