It's was like a dream but when I woke up, I released it was reality.
I have always trusted in my intelligence not to be deceived, but this particular event robbed me quickly that before I could realised it was fake, it was too late.
I was scammed years ago when I wanted to purchase a car. I have always known the customs to auctions cars at cheaper prices but I never knew the procedures to be followed.
I met one custom officer via the customs website(fake website). I told him of my plans to purchase one if the cars for auction and he assured me of his assistance. I never knew he was fake.
I told him the particular car I needed( Toyota Corolla 2005 model) He told me the price was 800, 000 thousand naira.
Based on the information on the website, all I needed to pay was #57,000 for the car papers after which the car would be delivered to me and after inspection, full payment would be made.
Innocently, I payed the #57,000 to him. After this, the story changed. He sent me another document ( custom duty and clearance form). He said I needed to pay in #196, 000 for custom duty and clearance before the car would be released for delivery.
I became suspicious of this man because this was not part of the initial bargain but reluctantly, I payed the money to him.
After this, the story changed again. Now it was a problem of fueling the car so that the driver would deliver it to me. He insisted I pay #30,000 which I did.
After the payment, he still demanded for the balance, sayng that the complete payment had to be done before the driver would be allowed to deliver the car to me. At this point, it dawned on me that this was a scammer. I demanded for a refund of my money but he refused and he stopped taking my calls. Every effort I made to reach him failed.
I reported the case to the police but till date, nothing has been done about it. At the end, I accepted the fact that I have been scammed. I felt really bad but there was nothing I could do about it.
I have learnt my lessons and I have become wiser in dealing with people as regards bussines transactions.
Several people from Nigeria wrote stories about being scammed when they thought they were buying a car. The lesson is that you must take special care to know the reputation of the person or business you are dealing with.
Yea, I have learnt my lessons.
