Disheartening is that high reputation holders promoted bitconnect. When they promote the people think.

"these is being promoted by reputed member of steemit, so it must be true ".

Another thing I would like to add is, those who proved that bitconnect is scam - like @thegrinder 's post, their posts never made to the trending tab, if that would' ve happened - more people could have read about it and won't fall for scam.

Unfortunately, because of steemit 's flawed algorithm, mostly high reputation holders gets to the trending tab and the gems gets buried.
