Friends of The Rio,

The Rio Theatre needs your help! Recent zoning changes have attracted the attention of developers who want to buy The Rio and tear it down for a new development project that would leave a big cavernous hole on the corner of Commercial and Broadway for years, and there is only one way to stop them: We have to buy The Rio!

To do that, we need to raise a $3 million down payment: we hope to do that with $1.5 million from donors like you, plus $1.5 million from private investors.

We can do this! The Rio has overcome adversity before with the huge support of the community. Our accepted offer to purchase the property was supported by over 22,000 signatures collected in just five days.

Corinne Lea – The Founder & CEO of The Rio ( who is also an artist :) is leading the charge.

Lea has successfully campaigned for positive change before, both for the RIO and her community. Lea's track record shows she can do it, all that is needed is enough support.

You can own a share of the RIO

"All funds donated to the non-profit Society will go towards purchasing shares of the property. The non-profit Society and the private investors are all shareholders of the property, they will not be involved with the daily operations running the theatre, instead they will become the new property owners!

The Vancouver Art House Society Established

... this Society was created to ensure that funds raised by your donation will not only help save the Rio, but it will continue on as a legacy project to help other Vancouver arts and culture organizations in the future." [1]

Supporting these art house community venues has become increasingly important.
It helps keep history and art culture in the minds of people who my not see it, or notice it so often in their day to day; and as we move closer to a more technologically encapsulated existence - we want art and community to come with us !

• so what better place to spread and keep up awareness of the #SavetheRIO campaign to preserve just those very things –than on a platform built on a blockchain.

When people are aware, they do see how important venues like this are and how valuable they are to keep.

When campaigns like this are successful, they will not only help the RIO and the people of Vancouver - they help to keep up awareness of the art deco period and structures, cultural history and the need for community art houses throughout the world.
