Internet is very convenient as it gives you a way to connect with people living hundreds and thousands miles away within a second. I ran projects with teams combined of professionals residing in Latvia and on Bali Island, from Latin America to Russia’s Volga-Urals. And after having this distant work experience it is twice as pleasant to finally get de-virtualized with some of blockchain specialists from my Facebook friend list and email address book.
On Monday, May 28, I took a liberty to jump on a train to Saint-Petersburg, and same evening I was attending the Saint-Petersburg blockchain developers community meet-up in DataArt hall. This is a regular event which takes place once a month, and the one I joined was eleventh in a row. I can say for sure that the event was hosted quite professionally, and its organizer Dmitry Plakhov did a great job. I was to thank him for inviting!
There were three presentation during the event:
Yury Vinogradov, of Finom, spoke on “Trends of blockchain technologies”. He was giving a lot of details on actual situation in already launched and functioning blockchains and went into some very niche professional areas. We wish all the best to Finom project and will be watching closely how they perform post listing on Cryptonit exchange.
Egor Fyodorov, who specializes in mining and runs Bestminer web site, talked on maximizing PoW mining equipment returns. It was surprising enough to see less than 10-15% hands rise in the audience of quite advanced people when asked on any personal experience in running/supporting nodes. This is why Egor’s story, which started from the basics, was useful to the listeners.
Marat Fatkulin from LedgerKitchen had his presentation entitled “Hyperledger implementation cases”. In essence, he was talking about general implications of blockchain in real life, not limited to Hyperledger per se, and what made that speech the best is its full connection to actual physical world experience and needs. That is why questions to Marat didn’t stop until the moderator interfered. My question on oracles mechanism was left unasked but I get it that this is not the first time the oracles topic is in debate here.
I was leaving with the warmest feelings possible, and understanding that St. Pete’s blockchain community is both tightly bonded and very professional. I wish all the best to my Northern Palmira colleagues and hope to visit you again soon!
