What Makes Us Sad?

Currently I’m not talking about mental issues due to chemical imbalance in the brain.

I had several mental breakdown because I couldn’t cope with society and it’s standards.

Recognition

As humans we have the need to belong. You see people belonging in various groups from religion to politics and beyond.

Humans want to be recognised by other fellow humans. That’s the way it is.

Humans are a sheep-like animals. We want to be in groups because this is our nature.

You might notice online that nobody watches videos other people don’t watch, nobody reads blogs other people don’t read and etc.

Comparison

As humans we always compare ourselves to others, well I don’t know what happens in other cultures, but in western culture — we compare ourselves to others.

It’s the way we’re raised and made to believe.

If, for example, you see somebody driving a luxury car or having a good mobile phone — you want it too, because every human wants to be in the “norm”

Everybody want to be normal and accepted.

If a person doesn’t act according to society’s norms, he might be excluded from the socium. And being excluded from the socium is the worst thing that can happen to a human.

When people are excluded from society — they’re called outcasts.

When a person is an outcast, he’ll most likely won’t have a job, nor friends, nor other benefits society can give.

Being “normal”

When society puts a standard to our behavior, we most likely will have to pretend and impress people and this makes us not true to ourselves.

There is nothing wrong with being odd and crazy, but this isn’t something society expects from us. Every social creature wants others to contribute to survival of the species thus making a standard behavior.

What makes us sad?

When we want to be true to ourselves, we realize that sometimes being true to ourselves might not be beneficial to society. Some want to use drugs, some want to drink and etc. Sometimes being yourself might not be accepted by the society and the culture we are living in.

Sadness most of the time comes when reality doesn’t meet our expectations.

Let’s admit, we’re all expecting something from the world. You just can’t contribute to society without wanting something in return. If you write a blog — you want money, if you do videos — you want viewers.

And everyone of us is trying to manipulate the world towards our needs. Everyone is doing it and when we’re too weak to bend our reality towards our needs — we feel sad.

We feel sad, when we can’t satisfy our needs. When we can’t make ends meet.

And there are various needs.

When we can’t satisfy our needs for a long period of time, we will get disgusted by human race and the way the system works.

Conclusion
It’s really hard to solve this problem due to personal expectations.

But wise men through ages told people to drop their expectations, because nobody really knows what life is supposed to be.

For some: life is a journey of plessent things. For some it’s a daily struggle to just survive.

My best advice is give yourself a break from comparison and expectations just because you really don’t know what your life should be because even not religious people can see that life has a scenario.

There are things you can’t change.

Adapt to life that you have, because you may never get what you truly want.
