Fifty runs till May #39

Run #39/50 - 78%: ✔

Today was another run where motivation persevered over common-sense. Where most people enjoyed their lunch inside, I was one of the few people outside doing my 'routine' run. I was actually surprised to see that there were a few more runners on the road, normally this isn't a surprise, but there was quite some heavy snow today so like the last time I expected to be alone on the road.

Conditions were quite extreme during my run today with low visibility, slippery on the wooden bridge and puddles everywhere

  • Weather: 1 degree, felt like -3 with heavy snow, strong winds, slippery parts and puddles everywhere
  • Distance: 5 kilometers
  • Time: 27 minutes
  • Pace: 5:20 min/km
  • Training Effect: 3,4 = Improving

Conditions before I left the building

I was alone again today as my colleague didn't feel like running in these conditions. I was a bit afraid that I wouldn't do as well due to the weather conditions and my high volume of exercises lately, but I am happy with my overall result of 5 km in 27 minutes.

I set to do 5 kilometers as I am planning to do another langlauf session tomorrow for run #40. As it has snowed yesterday and today and the weather is looking good for tomorrow, conditions should be optimal for a nice session of langlaufen. Watch this space!!!

Here are some more pictures of today and see you tomorrow, keep running!!!

Wow! You have a lot motivation! 👏🏽

THank you! One has to in this weather, but all the nice comments over here also help to stay motivated. On the other hand, when it's nice weather, the country is really stunning, which is also a nice motivator.

I'm in Western Pennsylvania and it's pretty rough to run in the winter. I have a combination that works pretty well in the snow and ice. I wear gaiters to keep my socks dry and I drill screws into the bottom of my shoes to keep from slipping on the snow and ice. Staying warm and covered is the key. Today it was 1 degree F. Those first few breaths of air can really hurt!!!! Keep on running!!!! May will be here soon :-)

Thanks, that's great advice. 1 F, that's extremely cold, I have not ran in a cold like that before. I'm not sure if It will get that extreme that I'll have to drill screws in the soles of my shoes though, but the gaiters are a great advice for when I have to run in snow again. If you see my other running posts, I tend to run in forrests where it's very muddy and lies 30cm of snow. I agree with staying warm, although if you run fast enough you don't even notice the cold anymore if you're dressed well and a nice hot shower afterwards does miracles. You keep running as well, I'd love to read your posts in those conditions.

I will get some pictures of a run this weekend and my shoes with screws in them! We are supposed to get some snow tomorrow.

Cool, I look forward to seeing it.

wao, very beautiful photos dear ,i,m feeling happy to see it ,i love this kind of places ,thanks for sharing with us

You're doing it!!! That's exciting! I'll keep watching.

5km in 27minutes? That's quite impressive!

Way to go. I go up in Michigan and ran track in house school. I remember and really don't miss running in the snow now. Now that I live in Arizona that is.

Thank you for sharing

Don't make me jealous! Arizona is on my Bucketlist, but I can imagine running over there isn't nice and easy either.

Yes sir and the views are beautiful. Hope when you make it to AZ you take plenty of pictures and share it all here on STEEM !!!

Thank you

Thanks for the motivation, I fell off the wagon this year when it comes to running. First year with baby and I feel like all my running improvements from last year are gone. I was running almost everyday, whether it was snowy or sunny. Nice pics btw

Thanks a lot! I can understand what that's like. I started running because I got children, but it's much harder for my wife to start exercising again.

Life is an eternal running.
You run after the children, of your dreams, achievements and failures.
Good pictures. Thanks for sharing

Thanks, I totally agree. When you're in the rhytm you don't even notice anymore.

I really enjoyed reading your blog and it is a good motivational driver as I have just started back running and I am struggling.
The only difference is I run in Australia were there is no such thing cool it is usually to hot to run.
I hope you keep you blog up to date
Thanks

Thank you! LOL, yeah that's a whole different thing. I don't know if you've seen my posts about what I dress for a run, but it's a huge difference between summer and winter.

I don't know if this helps anything at all. In the summer it got quite hot here and running during the day became too weary and I started running more in the evenings when it's still warm(er) and when there are more shades to cool down in.

My intention was to just report on the '50 runs till May' challenge, however I might do regular posts on running to share my experiences and report on any progress as I'm planning to do 1 or 2 events next year.

You've inspired me to start running in the new year! Should I start with a 5km run or should I try building up from 1-2km at the beginning? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

It depends on the level of your running experience, age and motivation. From my own experience, don't overdo it otherwise you won't keep it up. Try and improve slowly and steadily. Read my post about how I got into it here.

There are a lot of factors that will influence your abilities and runs, so if you need more advice please ask. What helped me personally (I was 36 when I started), start with walking and build it up, going further then faster, then start jogging/running. Set yourself small goals, 1km without stopping, then 2km, then 4 km until you are at a satisfactory level.

Once you've reached that level, search for varieties in the course, otherwise it might get boring. Add declines and inclines.

I hope this helps, this is off course based on personal circumstances and they can differ to your own.

your post is so fantastic, your post is so inspiration for me and all the steemit users, I am proud of you ... I love all your posts, you are fantastic in making a post, may the victory and goodness side with your work. Thank you..

Running when there's freezing weather is hell. Haha!

It's not that bad, you won't notice it when you're running and a hot shower afterwards does miracles.

Goodone

Thank you

Congrats for your determination! cheers @wolfje

Running is nothing more than a series of arguments between the part of your brain that wants to stop and the part that wants to keep going.

LMAO! Even when I'm running I still sometimes think I should turn around.

Keep up my man!
I'm sure you'll get to awesome results!

Thank you

Great post there, keep up good work !
