parkrun: Third time in Letchworth

in #running7 years ago

I didn't run yesterday, but I thought it was time I did the parkrun again. I'd hoped it would be nice and dry, but it rained overnight. It wasn't too bad and the mud was not as pervasive as previous times I've done it.

This is me after the run and about to cycle back. It's about 5km each way, but largely uphill on the way there. That makes for a nice, easy ride back. I could have done with some gloves this morning as it was still a bit chilly.

Post run

This is at the start. It really is for all ages with some much older than me as well as young kids running with parents. There were a few dogs too.

Start

I really went for it. There were times when I could have walked, but I was determined. The second time up the hill was hard, but I just ran a bit slower and I had enough in my legs to avoid being overtaken on the last kilometre. My app logged 5km a while before the finish line with my best time of the year. Again the top speed is spurious. It's the average pace that matters and I'm happy to see that under six minutes.

Log

I just got an email with my official time of 29:28. I'd been hoping for under half an hour, so I'm happy with that. I'm seeing improvement. There were less runners than previous events I went to, but still a good crowd. I know I'll never be in the top league, but I can still enjoy it.

Just having a coffee before I get in the shower. Got some mud to wash off.

Nice job on the under 30-minute time! Especially with having less than stellar conditions. 😀 Always nice to go into the weekend with a good run under your belt!

Woohoo! Good on you for pushing through and powering up the hill the second tie around.

.... and that's where the magic happens. Your mind is saying - it's time for a walk' and you say, 'not just yet' and you legs just keep on going. And you realise - i don't actually need to walk. I'm a lot stronger than I thought I was.

You're going to be stiff and sore in the morning though hehehehe

It is partly a mental thing, but I gritted my teeth. I ought to run tomorrow, but may not have time. Will make it up in the week.

You did well. ;-) The more you grit your teeth and push through the barriers the easier it gets to do it again and again.

But be careful..... down that road lies ultra marathons ;-)

Yey, I am happy for you that it went as you wanted!

I was at the park run again this morning, in fact I'm there every Saturday but today was different.. it was sunny :), and it showed with a turnout of around 375 people.
Seems you got our crappy weather today! Congrats on your new PB too.

It's a dull morning. You had a great turnout. It's amazing how many runners are out there.

I said that i would go to the gym today instead i am nursing a hangover lol

Run and have fun!

Kind reminder:

See who won the Running Author of the Week 8!

Determination is really a drive to succeed. You wanted to walk but they decided to keep on pushing. Instead of quitting, you slowed down a bit. I can relate this life itself, only the focused and determine people gets to end of the line. Enjoy your coffee. Have a nice day

I really love it when people engage in sports activities.. It makes them look healthy and fresh...
Kudos boss

Looks like a great workout! The combo of biking and running is so good for you!

Any outdoor activities I consider more fun and exciting. Thanks for sharing @steevc.
