This run will not be posted through @exhaust as I believe that @mstafford is working on porting it to Hive. I will run tomorrow morning anyway, so maybe that one can use the new version.
a siteI started a discussion on a local Facebook runners group about doing some individual timed runs. People are missing #parkrun and so I was looking for a suitable 5km course. It needs to be convenient to get to and preferably not cross any roads. I used that lets you plot and measure routes on Google maps. West Drive in #Arlesey was an access road for the old asylum. It still has some traffic, but is blocked to cars half way up. Then you can run around the edge of the new estate on the asylum site and turn around at an appropriate point. The down side is that it is largely uphill on the outward leg. 47m of climbing in all which could be like climbing a 15 storey building. I tried it at 'race pace' (for me) and was flagging on some of the climbs. The plus side is that the last km is all downhill, so the first and last km were the quickest.
Tonight's run was a spur of the minute thing as I wanted to check the distance, but I may try to do this each Saturday instead of parkrun. Maybe I will see some progress. It is about 1km to get to the start, so I took that really easy to warm up. I did not log that part on Strava.
Tomorrow I plan to do a long, gentle run. I had been training for a half marathon in May, but that is now cancelled. I may keep training and do my own half to see how I might have done. I could run the course as it is mostly off roads anyway.
Runners need goals to inspire them. It is fun to run with a crowd, but if that is not possible then I will just do my own thing.
Run free and stay healthy.
Just keep on running!
Nice alt Park Run.
Thanks for the comment on Strava, I couldn't figure out how to reply, it's most counter-intuitive the way one responds to comments on there!
