I've been a little preoccupied in the real world so haven't been spending much time on steemit.
One of the things that has happened in the last 2 weeks is the start of my first ever track season!
I've done the odd mile track race over the last few years but this year I am targetting both the 800m and 1500m to see how fast I can go.
My pace isn't fast enough for league meets so I'm using "open" meets that allow all abilities.
The Radley Open was the first of the season and allowed me to benchmark both distances in one afternoon!
First up was the 800m:
Open meets mean you could be in races with people of any age group and either sex.
I found myself boxed in after the break by people half my height and a third of my age!
At 300m I had eased off so as to get to the back which allowed me to pull out to lane 3, overtake the pack and chase down the leader.
I pulled clear and despite ecpecting one of the juniors to sprint past me I held on to cross the line first, like a competitive dad!
Happy with my time (and with improvements already identified) I had a few hours before the 1500m.
A slightly older, but still predominantly junior field lined up. There was no danger of me being boxed in this time as I tried to stay with the 2nd group.
Again, I was happy witg my time but knew I'd backed off too much in the middle of the race. Also, when I saw my HR chart I was disappointed to see me not keeping the HR (and therefore effort) as high as I can.
All in all a really fun experience and I'm eagerly awaiting the next open meet later this month to have another go at the 800m.

Ey!!! good start of the season!!!
You have a very good end at 1500m!!! It indicates a better time for the next!
Keep on running!
Thanks! With the 1500m I need to stop myself from holding back in the middle. I've seen it before in my mile performance. Need to do some more long intervals.
Competitive dad :D made me laugh, lol. Great pace, respect!
Thanks, I'm pleased with it as a benchmark. Amazing to watch the guys and girls in the faster heats though - so much speedier!
