Throwback 22 miler.. cause now I'm one week out!

in #running7 years ago

I let time get away but wanted to share my experience with my longest run of the cycle... what was supposed to be my peek week, life got in the way a bit and I moved up my 22mile run to Good Friday due to following weekend my best friend was visiting, we were going to a giants game, and our wedding anniversary. Sorry run, but it had to be celebration weekend and I only have time for a "shorter" 14-16 miles (snuck in on a lunch time Friday)

You know how marathon training is... I am telling my friends about my run over a lovely glass of wine and explaining I "deserve" all these calories

Shut up and get me a glass of wine.

Today, it was fish tacos that got me. Sorry, my stomach is doing the talking, let's get back to that run.

OoF! It was a tough one. I have been having such good runs lately, the 20 miler felt amazing, my #pr in the half marathon, I went in feeling strong- but when I woke up I just didn't have it. I somewhat had messed up because I was reading this fabulous book and fell asleep with about 20 pages to go that night and what a page turner! So when I woke up, instead of just heading out I wanted to just finish, ok maybe I was also a little nervous about the run... either way, book was great the run not so much.

Blaming #AJFINN for this bad run ;) JK AJ, thanks for the entertainment. I headed out around 8:15am (instead of 7:30am like I should have) and little did I know it would turn into one of the most beautiful days! Normally I would be WILD about this, but today... my 3+ hours of torture, wishing it had been a BIT cooler.

How I felt all day... now, let's talk about that run.

THE RUN

Now, at first glance, looks like a nice little 22mile run. Pretty, along the ocean, through the park *to grandmothers house we go... * but in reality let's look at that last 8 or so miles... Screen Shot 2018-04-21 at 9.30.29 PM.png

OUCH This path when I mapped I did not pay attention to the fact that I was WAAAAAAYYYYYY above the ocean and had to basically run uphill from 15/16 (beach level) for the next 10K. Now, 200 ft doesn't seem like that much, but at that point it felt like I was running through sand. BUT upside guys, I made it. I also think because I tried to end at Tacoshop, I might have gotten too excited and short changed... so I had to do a bit of an extra loop - just my favorite thing after 20 miles. Either way, the victory taco's were amazing.

Although this run wasn't exactly what I wanted, I am hoping it shapes me and my race next week. After watching those runners in Boston this last Monday, I honestly feel so inspired, and hopeful that even if things don't go my way putting in those miles week after week will pay off!

Here's hoping this is me in 2019 (well way back but you know I mean just crossing the line at boston) either way, happy running!
