Anyone knows Rock Classics I did miss?
Once I started this #Rockclassics series I did not realize it is probably over once, naturally given the name of the tag (when you define Classics during a certain time period) - I tried to write about my personal favourites first and added some of the real heroes of the Rock scene (mainly 60ies to 90ies). Then did not find any other cool classic band, singers etc I did not cover yet - but I was glad that some people such as @detlev @alexvan joined this tag from time to time. Happy I read that @vanje might also be a Rock fan :-). I furthermore have hope on @w74 who write awesome posts about Jazz - I also hope guys such as @aftersound or @ylich can find some love for Rock music and write about it - no pressure guys though! This tag was never meant to be a contest or such, just one of the things I thought might be nice to write about within my @music-community - if people wanna follow and use it I am happy.
Long entry - now back to a Rock Classic
I did a deep dive into my previous Rock posts - and after reading them I hought that was all - then i was reading online: Nothing. Last chance getting downstairs in ym fitness rool which is also the place where my vinyl is located - and guess what i found :-)? I found more Classics - the thing - can we consider them as #Rockclassics - but anyway the band i found was famous mainly in the 60ies - so a mix of Pop and Rock (I found another similar one - back from time probably no one was born from this Hve community).
Beach Boys (hope I did not write about them yet but pretty sure i did not)
We can read what Wikipedia writes below (or you read what my impression is/ was about the Boys from Calfornia :-).
When I was born Beach Boys been famous or already not that popular anymore - i missed it. Wheni grew up I did not hear about them, my parents also been more supporter of German traditional Schlager / Volksmusik - but what they knew about was "The Beatles" (they did not like them, but preferred them over Rolling Stones) - I heard songs by The Beatles at young age and was not thrilled but read a lot about them, cool story of people not able to read sheet music but still can compose epic music anthemns (similar to the guys from ABBA).
But we do not talk about ABBA or Beatles (are they Rock Classics - I consider both Pop)?
Probably (again) hardly anyone here knows Beatles or ABBA apart from @denmarkguy @detlev @steevc @slobberchops and myself - so Beach Boys - what is this?
During the early 60ies a band was created in California that made music in a garage (like many bands started such as Metallica).
Wikipedia states:
The Beach Boys are an American rock band formed in Hawthorne, California, in 1961. The group's original lineup consisted of brothers Brian, Dennis and Carl Wilson, their cousin Mike Love, and friend Al Jardine. Distinguished by their vocal harmonies, adolescent-oriented lyrics, and musical ingenuity, they are one of the most influential acts of the rock era. The group drew on the music of older pop vocal groups, 1950s rock and roll, and black R&B to create their unique sound. Under Brian's direction, they often incorporated classical or jazz elements and unconventional recording techniques in innovative ways.
The Beach Boys formed as a garage band centered on Brian's songwriting and managed by the Wilsons' father, Murry. In 1963, they enjoyed their first national hit with "Surfin' U.S.A.", beginning a string of top-ten singles that reflected a southern California youth culture of surfing, cars, and romance, dubbed the "California sound". They were one of the few American rock bands to sustain their commercial standing during the British Invasion. Starting with 1965's The Beach Boys Today!, they abandoned beachgoing themes for more personal lyrics and ambitious orchestrations. In 1966, the Pet Sounds album and "Good Vibrations" single raised the group's prestige as rock innovators; both are now widely considered to be among the greatest and most influential works in popular music history. After scrapping the Smile album in 1967, Brian gradually ceded control of the group to his bandmates.
They got me mid 80ies when I was in a vinyl record shop searching for affordable music
Was seaching and listening several records - not convincing and then found this Beach Boys album called "Littel Deuce Coup"
Had a short listen and was pretty surprised they did cool music already in the 60ies. Taht was the day I bought some albums with my spare money being 18.
I never been a real fan but I compared with the other sounds of the 60ies/70es - so mainly Beatles vs. Stones vs. Beach Boys - and they won, since that time I started to followed US bands more and found my love for #RockClassics which included mainly American AOR / hardcore bands.
Bin noch da, mein Freund. Sollte auch ein Post demnächst zum #rockclassics schreiben
I looove rock classics! Play alot of them with my own band!
excellent - seems you are a multi music genre taleT
I started with playing the drums and learn electronic music production over the last 10 years, so yeah. I think I started to become multi genre talent. :D
Given I am almost as old as the guys from this post - I was hitting the publish button too early - old men can not control all their movements, wrong community, wrong time but happy Weekend - hope someone knows them - enjoy!
