Completely religion based. The Higher your status in the Church of Unitology, the more power you have to make decisions about the states.

History:
Unitology is a religion founded on the discoveries of Michael Altman. Unitologists adamantly believe that the human race was created by the intelligent design of a divine alien agency, and will be reunified after death through the power of a sacred artifact known as the Marker. The Church of Unitology promises transformation and rebirth. Unitologists believe that all living beings will intertwine in the manner of the two prongs of the Marker, to become one. This process is called Convergence. They also believe that it will alleviate all of the destructive materialistic problems of the human race.

Awesome! Very nice back flag and backstory. What happened to the native Madagascar inhabitants, did they join or did they get wiped out by plague/war?
Most relocated to the provinces of the island that aren't occupied by the Unitologists. The Church goes out on missions to convert the natives, but the missions have had little success. It is rumored that every few weeks, a native or two goes missing, though no one is certain due to the lack of evidence.
