Riddle me this!

So I put together a few little mind benders I found on the net, some easy, some not so easy ( at least for me )

1 What word becomes shorter when you add letters to it?

2 What flattens all mountains, kills all species, destroys all buildings and turns everything to pieces?

3 What can you catch but not throw?

4 What is so delicate even saying it's name will break it?

5 Forward i'm heavy, backward i'm not. What am i?

6 I don't weigh much but even the strongest of people cant hold me for long. What am i?

7 What has cities, but no houses. forests, but no trees and water, but no fish?

8 What has a heart but no other organs?

9 I dig out tiny caves, and store gold and silver in them. I build bridges out of silver, Make crowns out of gold, But everyone is afraid of me Even the young and old. What am i?

10 The more you take, the more you leave behind. What am I?

I got probably 6-10 of these before i checked the answers but let me know what you think and ill tell you if youre right. No cheating!!!

Also if you have any good ones comment below. I feel a little cryptic tonight but maybe its just the alcohol.
