Now that I have introduced myself, I would like to talk more about this shoot and how fun it was.
As I had stated previously it was actually a pretty cold day and I wasn't sure if we would actually get to shoot.
I had a model with me that I had only shot one time before and didn't really know how tough she could be.
We went to a few locations looking, hoping to have something strike us. Locations are a big thing for me as I love to shoot outside and think they add a lot to a great portrait. Plus I am just an outdoors kinda guy that loves to explore so doing shoots like this is what I love the most.
So we drive around, knowing not much more than we want the location to hit us. I usually have my areas scouted out but occasionally I like to just explore with the models and we can collaborate on how we feel about a location. I love when we both are feeling the area and just start shooting and flowing very well together.
We drove around for a little while choosing a few different locations but not really having that "This is it" feeling about a spot. We drove from place to place, and at times having to flip into Four wheel drive, ooking at things from every angle making sure we didn't miss anything, to see what scenery we liked best. We finally saw from a distance an old dead tree on an old dried up overgrown beach from when the lake water was higher.
After coming to the agreement that this was the spot, we 4 wheeled over to an area we could access our spot from and set up our staging at. As I stated before the wind was blowing pretty good that day so even with my sand bags I was nervous about setting up my lights and stuff. Luckily the models boyfriend Brandon was able to join us on this shoot. I don't usually allow this as I don't want attention taken away from the camera and put on the BF, but we had met and talked and I decided it would be ok. I Usually suggest that if the model would like an escort with them that they choose a friend that will be supportive as I would never want someone to be uncomfortable on a shoot as it would show in their face.
As I stated, her boyfriend was with us and lucky for me had volunteered his services. I quickly put him to work holding lights and props off to the side while we worked. He was a champ and kept at it despite his arms getting very tired, lol. this put my mind at ease about my stands being blown over and lights getting ruined and allowed me to really just focus on the shoot and my settings.
The one thing I haven't mentioned that will help show that this model was as tough as she was gorgeous. All the dead, dried plants that are all around her and in the fore and background were covered with these giant burrs that were on some divine order to stab as many legs and feet as possible, and although the photos turned out great it was a bit of a battle from our knees down, lol.
As you can see the shoot turned out great, the model was gorgeous as well as a total warrior about the weather. The boyfriend had a blast, no one was hurt beyond a few scratches from the bushes and nothing was lost to the wind. This was definitely my kind of shoot. I cant wait for my next adventure shoot. I love that there is minimal photoshop to her body. Her butt is great, yet not perfect. I like the real-ness of this shoot.
