The Most Boring Pacific Rim: Uprising Review in The Universe

It's been about a year since I've last watched a movie in the cinema, so I decided to attend a corporate screening organised by Inspidea just a couple of hours ago. There were folks from 12 different countries, all enthusiastically gathered like a big family in a hall to enjoy a night of giant mechas and Godzilla-like monsters on the big screen.

Much to my regret, I finished my bag of popcorns before the show even started. It's been a while.

Plot & theme: Slightly better than average

Well, the plot is standard action Hollywood stuff that's on the better end of the spectrum. I wouldn't say that it's entirely predictable, but the plotholes and liberal use of deus ex machinas are. Nothing to complain though. It has cool ass robots. It has the usual end-of-the-world scenario that pits human-beings against non-human and violent megabeasts. What else do you need in an epic and politically-safe action movie?

Casts & Performance: Not bad

Nothing mind-blowing. It's okay. Nothing much to say. There were some familiar-looking faces. The three that stood out to me looked like they're younger versions of Denzel Washington, Natalie Portman, and Willem Dafoe. Pretty sure they're not part of the cast, but I felt right at home with their lookalikes. The ensemble is stereotypically diverse and 21st century enough that it works for a global audience. There were only a couple of cringe moments that annoyed me, but who cares about my feelings?

Audio & Visual: Quite nice

This is a triple-A action movie. So it's not surprising that it's good enough to be worth the ticket price of ~$4.00. Nothing artsy of course, but it's movie magic enough. I guess ultimately it'd depend on the cinema that you're in though. Mine was the standard ticket in the average cinema. Can't really judge the audio, but it does sound sufficiently action-packed.

Verdict: Just go watch it

I felt like I didn't waste my time watching the movie. My left and right seats unanimously agreed that it's at least better than any of the Godzilla movies. Will I watch it again? Most likely not, unless I get a hot date with Jing Tian to watch her own movie for the 198th time lol. Regardless, I'd certainly like to follow-up on the next Pacific Rim! What did you think the "Uprising" in the title is all about? It certainly wasn't for the movie I just watched..

The trailer for Pacific Rim: Uprising

Coincidentally, I was playing Into the Breach recently and just realised that it's a 16-bit homage to Pacific Rim. It's a super difficult game. Love it.

A lot of movies have become predictable, I liked Transformers for example something different .

Hello and good morning @kevinwong.

Always a great pleasure coming across your blogs because I learn some few stuffs and tricks too. Haha 😀😀.

That apart, I'm just getting to know that this is the sequel to the 2013 or 14 Pacific Rim. Well, I can't recall fully now. But I did enjoy the former a bit, yeah I'm just in love with anything sci-fi I guess.

This certainly caught my eyes with the trailer and I'm going to watch it, guess I now have to include it in my budget. Thought they dealt with all these freaking beasts when their link to earth was destroyed, but anyways I love that there's a sequel.

And oh, who wouldn't want to watch a movie with Jing Tian? Haha,😂😂.

Keep being amazing and inspirational as always. And Happy SteemVersary 😀

It never ends with Hollywood. The franchise will get milked until they add some Marvel and DC Comics crossover with 128 superheroes in one movie.. oh it's steemversary?!

Haha 😂😂😂
Crossover with 128 superheroes is surely what is trending these days😂😂, it just keep going like that. And Yeah, SteemVersary it is as I call it, Steemit is 2 years old today. Praying for the greater success of the platform and better days ahead.

Cheers 😀😀🎊

I really like science fiction movie and the first part of pacific rim was quite nice so i will definitely go to watch this movie. Thanks for the review.

This film is bad, one of the worst sequel I saw in the cinema. There are no kaejus, except in the last quarter of an hour when we are placed 3 at once. The transformation of the Power Ranger is so ridiculous that it is laughable. The staging is catastrophic, robots that make karate ????? Serious??

Yeah exactly. I like the campiness!

Well, i have been quite a sucker for movies, dont really find them interesting.
Some made up characters and story line do actually nothing to impress.
They've been quite a few i have watched though.
I can however, spend 24 hours a day watching documentaries.

What's an interesting doco u've come across recently?

A very good sequel but didn't have a good storyline. The fight scenes are off the charts and also its a must watch on the big screens once!!!! Over all the movie is a great one!!!

The story totally sucks! haha.. it's passable for the action though

Hahaha. I agree

Thanks for the review! Not very motivated to go and watch it, feels more like I should watch if ever the time comes I have nothing better to do ;)

I love the photo you used in the intro though, haha

Yeah I had nothing better to do! lol (on both counts :P)

I couldn't watch the first pacific rim until the end because the plot was made for 7 year-olds. I'm a sucker for interesting plots and giants robots kicking giant dinosaurs is kind of meh for me.

Wonder if they could've done something better with the budget

I do like these kind of movies, however there was something missing. I loved movie “Transformers” I think they made “Pacific Rim” based on success of “Transformers”. Didn’t get me as much. In fact I would call it a big, brash, unpretentious B movie that lives down to its billing: robots punching monsters — it does what it says on the Rim.
Great review though!

Exactly, I wouldn't think too much about its cliches and all. It doesn't pretend to be a deep movie at all

I haven't watched the 'uprising' yet, I guess that's because I've only got some bad review about it. You are the first person saying something nice about it, all my friends who have seen it just grade it as average and not highly rated as it is been hype. Maybe I'll check it out someday, right now I wanna see 'Death Race' when next I get a chance to hit the cinema.

Hahaha!!! A good detailed analysis of your experience at the Cinema.
I love Denzel Washington's movie so much would rushed for his movies irrespective of the cost
Hahaha!!! You finished your popcorn that early. Lol!!!

Been a year since i ate popcorn lol. and it's quite good popcorn too, very rare around these parts

You sound very original means you say what you feel and I really like watching movies.
but unfortunately in my city Lhokseumawe there is no cinema because the government of Lhokseumawe city, Indonesia does not allow the cinema.
I watched most of the movies online.
Thanks for sharing your experience with us and have a great day.

Really? I didn't know that. Good thing there's the internet..

yes, the internet is very useful.
I hope the future of my city allows cinema

but who cares about my feelings?

I do.

Get a room, you!

*cue smooth jazz record*

Been awhile since I've been to the movie theater, too; this sounds like one I might watch with my nieces and nephews (I've got 20 of them!)

Younger versions of Denzel Washington, Natalie Portman, and Willem Dafoe made me smile, and makes you sound older than you are :p

Tell me, @kevinwong, why do you think we humans love end-of-the-world scenarios so much (Existential panic, mortality issues)?

Also, why are we always pitting human-beings against non-humans, etc Again, are we afraid that the machines will eventually turn on us?

Sorry if I'm taking all the fun out of this (I enjoy mindless, superhero flicks) but why is it that in the majority of alien movies, they are here to invade and destroy our planet?

Perhaps, when we can conceive of more peaceful, curious, generous strangers, we might be less prone to invade and destroy other countries, here on planet earth?

Movie Pooper Yahia :O

Lol, i dunno. there are just either peaceful aliens or destructive aliens.. the latter is better for movies I guess?

44 years on this planet and I still don't understand... feel more alien or human impersonator than anything else :)

unless I get a hot date with Jing Tian to watch her own movie for the 198th time...

Maybe it will happen Kelvin. Who knows? :D

never say never. now i just have to go for casting in some hollywood movies :p

I wasn’t sure if I should go watch this one in the cinemas but perhaps I will. Looking forward to another movie being released next week! So excited to watch Ready Player One

Oh yeah! I love the book. Hope the movie's equally good!

Yeah me too! Finger's crossed the movie lives up to the book

Was the Pacific Rim already up? I almost forgot that there are a lot of cool upcoming movies in March-June.
I really hope to watch some of them (Including sick robot fights).

Yeah, i think i caught it on the premier first day, maybe

I didn't really watch the first one because it looked dark (literally) and seemed kiddish, with exaggerated-power-rangers-like-overly-enthusiastic acting!
I watched the trailer of this one in the movies (maybe that's why I liked it lol) and it seemed to have some cool action scenes.
The best I would do is watch it online. I doubt it's worth spending a lot in the theatre though?
And I've been thinking of doing movie reviews too, thanks for igniting that idea again with this post!

It's worth it in the cinema I guess. If it's not action-packed, it wouldn't be worth it.. well that's what i think about the cinema experience.

Hmm must be the epic sound system that makes action movies even more intense.

Ah haa... your dream pretty is jing tian... hmmm lolll action please... don't just day dream here! I love to see your love story more...😂 You can read Chinese?

Nope, they call me a banana lol, can speak canto though

Ahh haa, I can speak canton but not accurate. And i sing a canton song last week.... amaze... u wanna listen to it? You won't regret!! Loll... my friend have a happy week after listen my canton song.. lol.. never ending his laughter

Haha sorry, due to security issues i tend not to click on unfamiliar links!

Oh ya, true also. Sorry ya.
It's actually a k-box link in my steemit blog. To participate the singing contest. :)
Welcome then if you free to view my blog.
:D

Haha I love the part where one of the pilot put up the trollolol song which was totally unexpected 😂.

Overall is a nice follow up plot from the previous 1, looking forward to them find precustor 😬

I thought trollolol is russian. Learned something during the movie :P

It is like watching the Transformers. Quite nice to watch in cinemas.

(Brings more popcorn)

I didn't get to watch it yet @kevinwong

Either way I don't mind paying to watch action movies on the BIG screen. I tell everyone the theatre that I go to has Reserved Spacious Leather Electric Recliners which I use the App to buy and select my seats for my movies. Scan the barcode at kiosk and bypass like VIP using the AMC App on my mobile.

I will let you know sometime this week what the UPRISING in the TITLE after I watch it.

Thank you @kevinwong. Watch The trailer for Pacific Rim: Uprising. very interesting. watching the whole is certainly more interesting. I will download this movie, because I really like watching movies like this. thanks, your post refreshes my memory

Great i got something to do this weekend lets see this thanks for your review :D

Nice photoshop showing transformers standing on the mountain slope.
The blue one is my favourite, though.

Wow those looking are awesome.

thank you for the review and encouragement to see thee movie. I think I will. Blessings @kevinwong

have launched Pacific Rim Uprising part @kevinwong? I looked movie review there. It's mind blaster movie to myself. Like to watch those mega-beasts movies every time. Audio and video top quality and digital sound entire. Great digital film production.

Actually when I saw the part one of this movie, I didn't really feel it that much. It didn't hit me like an interesting movie but to be sincere, with the reviews i have read about this movie, the trailer and all the hype, I think this part Two is gonna be one of a kind and I can't wait for it to be released.

The last game I played... Uhhh... was RED ALERT :D but I was addicted! anyway... life was too tough for me to be able to keep playing!

Hehehe.. seems you were hungry to let the popcorns hold for a couple of minutes. After taking long not going to the show.. Pacific rim was definately a great pick to get in the mood. Am so sure you can't wait for the next one in line.

This are the type of movies that you expect less but you tend to see more than enough. So stick your neck in the damn cinema and grab some rim

Amazing yes, the agenda on this day, can watch with success always brothers @kevinwong

Nice one @kevinwong. Thank you for sharing some of this beautiful movie ive never seen.

Wow
Very steady yes, can watch while enjoying popcorns @kevinwong

It seems like you have a wonderful day and happy moments of life🙂 its very interesting action movie

Wow, you sounds really genuine means you said what you feel and i really like to watch movies in theatres but i can't afford the expensive theaters but try to watch where the ticket costs 1 or 2 dollars and i watch most of the movies online but whenever most awaited movie releases i rush to watch it. Thanks for sharing your experience with us and wishing you an great day. Stay blessed. 🙂

Very good FOLLOW @ajaa23 yes friend all

if there is a chance to continue watching, I also like to watch movies.

The "Uprising" I know is an old movie and probably won't be in the cinemas again. It was really cool and worth watching again.

I've seen the trailers of Pacific ream uprising though. Still planning on watching it.

This movie trailer is fully action full

Wow.. The first part of this film was something else, seriously I had to watch it over and over again still I never got bored and now the two is out, I saw on the net two days ago. Can't wait to watch it, thanks @kevinwong for sharing.. I love movies.

This sure's gonna be really interesting. Hmmmmmm

@kevinwong, Absolutely best review given of The trailer for Pacific Rim. I've seen part no. 1 of Pacific Rim. Yep it was amazing experience to me I didn't felt time was go further.

I finished my bag of popcorns before the show even started.

I can get clear idea how about Pacific Rim. It's hungry finder movie who want to finish popcorn. :D
Denzel Washington, Natalie Portman, and Willem Dafoe done best character there. I feel its end of the world scenery indeed humans and violent mega-beasts attacking show against both parties. Nice you decided to share.

Good movie, good story, but looks more horro
