I met a lot of South Africans along my travels. All very nice people. But in recent years based on conversations I've had I've come to an understanding that your country and my USA have a lot in common. They are both on a downward spiral with racial, political, and economic tensions reaching new highs. Hope that isn't the case for South Africa.
I just left the US from a 5 week visit after not being there for 3 years. It was mind blowing how everyone was so divided. Made me quite sad. I miss my baseball and apple pie. Now it's gangster rap and transgender. Now I'm back in one of my favorite countries, Thailand! For me it's a big breath of fresh air! :)
I got in early, it was easy then...
Yip, SA is unfortunately fast becoming the USA of Africa, but that's what wealth and the easy life chasing materialism brings.
Your culture shock series was great by the way, pity it didn't earn more, I loved it, all to easy to identify with these days.

Western culture is crumbling before our very eyes and no one seems to see the forest through the trees. I won't win any popularity contests among certain groups when I say that, in my intentionally, very well informed opinion, the reformation is the single event in history that has contributed the most to the decline of the west. The Name above all names has been reduced to the punchline of a bad joke because we who claim to know the truth can't even agree on the meaning of the first three chapters of the first book. The Bible states explicitly that a house divided cannot stand. When Jesus said this, he was talking about us, right now, today. I'm thoroughly convinced of this.
