I heard an interesting perspective on Afghanistan, that it's not a war with a specific victory condition, but the idea is to draw would-be terrorist threats into combat. That seems plausible to me.
It's for money and power, that's what every war is about when it comes down to it
That doesn't mean it isn't about the safety of Americans.
I don't see any net financial gain from it.
