Lots of people still pray for guidance, why? When a religious person is faced with a difficult situation or just a dilema, they turn to god in the form of prayer and wait for some kind of guidance. Although nothing happens, they say they feel it and act upon a "sign", or maybe they just waiting for the problem to solve itself?
I was talking to someone who does just that the other day and I think it made me understand... The person said they cite prayers and texts from the bible, and then "suddenly" the solution is clear 😮
So I thought... you know when you think about something too much and it becomes impossible to make sense of it? then you leave it and all of a sudden the solution dawns on you? so maybe the prayer just serves to distract by doing something that just comes automatically and doesn't require much effort and/or engagement, leaving our mental faculties to work in the background, without direction and more efficiently? kind of clearing your mind so that your thoughts are "fresh"?
