Idea for an experience and an experiment

in #religion6 years ago

All my life I have searched for a reason to believe. To understand what people call faith. You see I have a high functioning form of autism. Part of it which is relevant to this post is that I don't really understand emotion. I live life in such a rational existence that ideas like religion and social interaction make little sense among other things.

So I have always looked for a rational explanation for everything. But also I have always wanted to experience and understand how people can have faith. How they can believe in something intangible. This leads me to my idea for this experience/experiment. Yesterday I ordered a copy of the NIV Bible.

My plan is to read it start to finish. I want to document it though. I want to record my reactions and interpretations of the verses and chapters. I want to post the videos here and try to open up a dialogue between steemit users and myself. I want to exchange interpretations of the message so many people believe in and use as the basis for their daily lives.

Mainly, I want to understand this concept of faith. I want to believe. Hopefully you will be interested in this journey and help me understand things I miss. Help me rationalize faith in a way I can understand. I look forward to discussing the things I will uncover while reading.

Let me know what you think of this adventure.

Faith should not be blind. We should have faith in what we know to be true.

(Luke 1:1-4 NIV) Many have undertaken to draw up an account of the things that have been fulfilled among us, {2} just as they were handed down to us by those who from the first were eyewitnesses and servants of the word. {3} Therefore, since I myself have carefully investigated everything from the beginning, it seemed good also to me to write an orderly account for you, most excellent Theophilus, {4} so that you may know the certainty of the things you have been taught.

(2 Peter 1:16 NIV) We did not follow cleverly invented stories when we told you about the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but we were eyewitnesses of his majesty.

(1 Peter 3:15 NIV) But in your hearts set apart Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect,

A great book for the defense of the Christian faith is "Evidence That Demands A Verdict" by Josh McDowell. There are various editions of it for sale on Amazon and eBay.

I will check it out. I am interested in the discussions this video series will generate. I look forward to your critique and pointing me in the right direction.
