Eid al-Fitr is observed when the first new moon is sighted.
Eid is determined from the Islamic calendar known as the Umm al-Qura calendar which is based on the moon's cycle. The Islamic dates move back 11 days every year. Eid-Ul-Fitr is also known as Meethi Eid. On the day of the holy festival, Muslims gather at mosques to offer special Eid prayers. The Eid celebrations last for three days and are believed as a time of forgiveness and thanking Allah for helping people to complete the fasting ritual. Many Muslims give money or food to charity or the poor during the festival.

Eid means "celebration" and Mubarak means "blessed" so Eid Mubarak can be translated to mean "blessed Eid" or "blessed celebration". While countries like Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates (UAE), Bahrain, Syria, Iraq, Egypt will celebrate Eid on Sunday, the Asian countries like India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Indonesia, Malaysia are likely to celebrate it on Monday.
Eid al-Fitr is among two important Islamic celebrations. The celebrations include an array of delicious dishes and sweets. The month of Ramadan is considered auspicious as it is the month when Prophet received the first verses of Quran and gates of heaven are believed to be open throughout the month. As per beliefs, Prophet Mohammad had laid down Eid ul-Fitr as days of rejoicing after feasting for the Muslims, in the remembrance of Allah.
