Cuando estamos débiles. || When we are weak.

There are times when we suffer attacks or situations where it is difficult to make the right decision. These are the moments when we must cry out to God to renew our strength and thus make the best decision.

Samson went to Gaza, and saw a prostitute there, and he went in to her. 2 And it was told to the men of Gaza, “Samson has come here.” So they surrounded him and lay in wait all night at the gate of the city; and they were silent all night, saying, “Until the light of morning, then we will kill him.” 3 But Samson slept until midnight; and at midnight he got up, and took hold of the city gates with their two posts and their bars, and put them on his shoulders, and went and carried them to the top of the hill that faces Hebron.

Judges 16:1-4

If we don't choose to confront our weaknesses head-on, this can become a problem for us at some point in our lives. In this sense, we must understand that our vulnerabilities are a path to draw closer to God, but also, depending on our choices, they can distance us from His love. We have an example of this in this story.

After this, his master's wife took notice of Joseph and said, “Come to bed with me.” 8 But he refused and said to his master's wife, “My master does not concern himself with anything in the house, but has put everything he owns into my hands. 9 There is no one greater in this house than I am, and he has withheld nothing from me except you, because you are his wife. How then could I do such a wicked thing and sin against God?”

Genesis 39:7-9

We can read the entire story of Samson to fully understand the context and contrast it with the temptation Joseph also faced. The situations were similar, but each man's reaction was completely different. We recall that Potiphar's wife tried to seduce Joseph day after day. After Joseph decided not to give in to temptation, even though he suffered for his decision, God blessed him in an amazing way.

And she said to him, “How can you say, ‘I love you,’ when your heart is not with me? You have deceived me these three times, and you have not yet told me the secret of your great strength.” 16 And it came to pass, when she pressed him daily with her words and urged him, that his soul was vexed to death. 17 So he told her all his heart, and said, “No razor has ever been upon my head, for I have been a Nazirite to God from my mother’s womb.” If my head is shaved, my strength will leave me, and I will become weak and be like any other man.

Judges 16:15-17

Unlike Joseph, Samson yielded to temptation willingly, resulting in a completely different outcome than Joseph's. Here we can understand that the decisions we make determine our future, even when we think our choices at the time are unimportant.

24 And the woman gave birth to a son and named him Samson. And the child grew, and the Lord blessed him.

Judges 13:24

Samson was no ordinary man; he was a person consecrated to God and in whom the Holy Spirit worked. But his decision was decisive because he chose self-indulgence. Then he justified his weakness, and this very weakness began to take control of his life. He placed earthly pleasures and his own strength before God's blessing.

We all face different temptations at some point, where we must make a crucial decision for our future. We can make the decision as Joseph did, or as Samson did. No one pressures us, even when temptations or circumstances seem to force us to make a certain decision. We are the ones who have the power to decide, and it is in those moments of weakness that we must cry out to God more fervently to obey Him and seek new strength to make the best decisions. What are these good decisions? They are the decisions that honor God, that glorify Him, and that draw us closer to Him.

Hay momentos en que sufrimos ataques o situaciones en las que resulta difícil tomar la decisión correcta, son esos momentos en que debemos clamar a Dios para renovar nuestras fuerzas y de esa manera tomar la mejor decisión.

Fue Sansón a Gaza, y vio allí a una mujer ramera, y se llegó a ella. 2 Y fue dicho a los de Gaza: Sansón ha venido acá. Y lo rodearon, y acecharon toda aquella noche a la puerta de la ciudad; y estuvieron callados toda aquella noche, diciendo: Hasta la luz de la mañana; entonces lo mataremos. 3 Mas Sansón durmió hasta la medianoche; y a la medianoche se levantó, y tomando las puertas de la ciudad con sus dos pilares y su cerrojo, se las echó al hombro, y se fue y las subió a la cumbre del monte que está delante de Hebrón.

Jueces 16:1-4

Si no tomamos la decisión de enfrentar cara a cara nuestras debilidades esto puede ser un problema para nosotros en algún momento de nuestras vidas. En este sentido, debemos entender que nuestras vulnerabilidades son un camino para acercarnos a Dios pero también conforme a nuestras decisiones puede alejarnos de su amor y de esto tenemos un ejemplo en esta historia.

Aconteció después de esto, que la mujer de su amo puso sus ojos en José, y dijo: Duerme conmigo. 8 Y él no quiso, y dijo a la mujer de su amo: He aquí que mi señor no se preocupa conmigo de lo que hay en casa, y ha puesto en mi mano todo lo que tiene. 9 No hay otro mayor que yo en esta casa, y ninguna cosa me ha reservado sino a ti, por cuanto tú eres su mujer; ¿cómo, pues, haría yo este grande mal, y pecaría contra Dios?

Génesis 39:7-9

Podemos leer toda la historia de Sansón para entender a la perfección el contexto y así contrastarlo con la tentación que también habría sufrido José, fueron similares pero la reacción de cada uno fue totalmente diferente, recordamos que la esposa de Potifar intentaba seducir día tras día a José. Después de que José tomara la decisión de no dejarse llevar por las tentaciones aún sufriendo por su decisión, Dios lo bendijo de manera impresionante.

Y ella le dijo: ¿Cómo dices: Yo te amo, cuando tu corazón no está conmigo? Ya me has engañado tres veces, y no me has descubierto aún en qué consiste tu gran fuerza. 16 Y aconteció que, presionándole ella cada día con sus palabras e importunándole, su alma fue reducida a mortal angustia. 17 Le descubrió, pues, todo su corazón, y le dijo: Nunca a mi cabeza llegó navaja; porque soy nazareo de Dios desde el vientre de mi madre. Si fuere rapado, mi fuerza se apartará de mí, y me debilitaré y seré como todos los hombres.

Jueces 16:15-17

A diferencia de Jose, Sansón se dio a la tentación y lo hizo de forma voluntaria teniendo así como resultado algo total mente diferente al resultado de Jose, aquí podemos entender que las decisiones que tomemos determinar nuestro futuro aún cuando pensamos que no tiene importancia lo que decidamos en el momento.

24 Y la mujer dio a luz un hijo, y le puso por nombre Sansón. Y el niño creció, y Jehová lo bendijo.

Jueces 13:24

Sansón no era cualquier hombre, él era una persona que había sido consagrado a Dios y en quien también el espíritu Santo operaba, pero su decisión fue determinante ya que eligió ser autocomplaciente. Luego justificó su debilidad y así esta misma debilidad comenzó a tomar el control de su vida, puso enfrente de los placeres terrenales y su fuerza antes que la bendición de Dios.

Todos en algún momento nos enfrentamos a diferentes tentaciones donde debemos tomar una decisión determinante para nuestro futuro, podemos tomar la decisión así como lo hizo Jose o bien decidir como lo ha hecho Sanson. Nadie nos presiona aún cuando las tentaciones o las circunstancias parecen que nos obliguen a tomar determinada decisión, quienes tienen el poder de decidir somos nosotros, y en esos momentos de debilidad es cuando debemos clamar con más fuerza a Dios para obedecerle y buscar nuevas fuerzas para tomar las mejores decisiones, ¿Cuáles son esas buenas decisiones? Son las decisiones que honren a Dios, que le glorifiquen y que nosotros nos acerquen más a Dios.
