"They were not thirsty when he led them through the deserts, and he poured water out of the rock: he broke the stone, and the water flowed." Isaiah 48.21

Oh! How good it would be if you understood this reality well! All things that you trust will not be eternal. Because? Because everything is fleeting. But he that trusteth in the rock Jesus Christ shall not be ashamed, but abide for ever, for Jesus Christ is eternal. He is the rock of salvation, from which flows the water of life. Who was this rock in the wilderness, which was smitten by Moses, until there flowed rivers of living water? It was Jesus Christ himself! What a strange figure! The rock, smitten by the lawgiver Moses, satisfied the thirst of the people as they flowed clear waters of it! Jesus Christ, who was wounded for our transgressions, is the eternal rock, from which flows the water of life. He invites: "He who thirsts, let him come, and whosoever will, let him receive the water of life freely." This river of the water of life flows through the entire Bible. Ezekiel (600 BC) saw him and exclaimed: "... he will live wherever this river passes." This river of the water of life is the life poured out of Jesus; it is His precious blood. He is the river of life that comes from Calvary.
