While I fully agree with the bitnations project, let me know how you could actually verified the identity of someone who registers BitNation. I do not understand how it could be done now

There is a basic refugee identity system, which relies on testimony from friends and relatives and minimal biometric data (height - something which is plausible but not exclusive to an individual). It's, in effect, proof of life. When Pangea comes onstream people will be able to use pseudo-anonymous identities in a much more sophisticated way, their identity will be 'known' and verified through a reputation system, which will enable them to make smart contracts with their peers under the legal code of their choice and with agreed expert arbitrators. I.e. they will be able to make contracts to access services with their pseudo-anonymous identity in an encrypted and decentralised jurisdiction, in which reputation will provide the incentive for compliance.
