Steemit, the Reddit with its own cryptocurrency that pays to publish

in #reddit6 years ago

The hoaxes and disinformation are one of the main challenges to overcome on the internet and especially in social networks. Many of these publications are made for a specific purpose, either to capture more audience and with it more profits, or simply to manipulate through misinformation. But what would happen if social networks pay their users for the quality information they publish? This social network already exists, and it's called Steemit.

What is Steemit?
Steemit, the Reddit with its own cryptocurrency that pays to publish As a general rule, the most common way to obtain profits through the internet is to build a website or blog where people publish content on specialized topics, obtaining traffic from other people who interest in that content, but the content does not generate income, but the advertising that can be inserted in the page in question.

Thus, the predominant factor to obtain income is to have a high number of visits and that these interact with advertising, with which only large websites obtain some considerable profits, or in their case, false or alarmist news arise to obtain that traffic.

However, Steemit is a platform that combines the creation of content, user interaction and its own cryptocurrency called Steem, which is used to "pay" content creators for their quality publications, and all this based on the blockchain technology. The income of the creators of content will depend on the votes and interactions of the readers, based on the quality and usefulness of the articles.

Thus all the content published by Steemit will generate income, but the amount will depend on the quality, and you will be paid through the Steem. The Steem is a cryptocurrency similar to Bitcoin whose difference is that its use is exclusive for content creators.

Steemit was born in 2016 by its creators Ned Scott and Dan Larimer, creator of Bitshares, a financial services platform based on blockchain, and at its base is a social network similar to Reddit.

The disruptive social network that could revolutionize content creation
The blockchain is also the basis of other tokens used in Steemit: an asset called Steem Dollars that bases its value on the American dollar and that is used as payment to the authors and curators of Steemit, and the Steem Power, which represents the influence of a user in the social network. This token is not designed to buy or sell (although it can be transformed into Steem) but to measure the power that a user has, its influence by the amount of good content post and useful votes that have been made.

Although Steemit is a system that is in beta, it is certainly a very striking initiative. Now it has basic functionalities, but perhaps in the not too distant future Steemit will become the first of many platforms that integrate this novel way of creating quality content and manage to keep it only by paying its collaborators.

In fact Facebook is considering how to integrate Blockchain technology into its platform, and Steemit may be their inspiration to finally create a social network free of false news.Screenshot_1.png
