If you have an apple tree you need to try this. This is the best way to eat lotsa apples a week, without having to process them into apple butter or applesauce or cider, I mean. It makes those cheap grocery store apples that are unpalatable raw taste nice too.
You will need:
Apples- 1 for a small portion, 2 for a large portion. More for more people of course.
Butter, enough to thickly coat the bottom of the pan you're using.
Brown sugar
Cinnamon and nutmeg
Quick oats
Step 1- cut the apples in half
Step 2- cut the halves into quarters
Step three- cut those quarters into eighths
Step four- cut the core end off, then cut them in half again and peel them with a knife.
Step five- fry them in butter on low-medium heat, with a lid on, for 10-15 minutes, or until they're 90% as tender as you'd like. Stir occasionally.
Step six- add brown sugar, cinnamon and nutmeg, to taste. Stir until coated. You may want to turn the heat down at this point, depending on how hot it was before.
Step seven- Add quick oats to taste. Anywhere from none if you don't want them, to heaps and heaps for an apple-granola effect.
Step eight- plate.
