I love me a clean neighbourhood. I often wonder why some places are so full of garbage while others are impeccably clean. The availability of resources is an obvious factor. But I think there might be other aspects as well, perhaps associated with resource availability. Biology? Culture? The alignment of the planets?
In my own home, I go through extreme bouts of Zen cleanliness or complete mess. I used to have a roommate who liked to keep things impeccably clean. Not a single hair in the shower or bathroom. Dishes all clean after meals. He was militant about it while I was a bit more laissez-faire, and this put us at odd sometimes.
"My mother would force us to keep things tidy and clean," he told me one day almost apologetically. He shook his head with an ironic chuckle as if remembering some traumatic but valuable event.
Culturally speaking, I find it striking how Germans and Japanese are so committed to cleanliness. Japanese soccer fans even stay behind to clean their sections after international games whether they win, lose, or draw. I admire this trait.
For me, cleaning is a waste of time. In the time I vacuum, I could be learning quantum mechanics, planning world take over, painting a masterpiece, solving quadratic equations, exploring Mars, programming a computer, analyzing statistical data on the porn habits of monkeys, but instead I'm moving a stick back and forth over a carpet. Then I have to do it again next week? Get out of here. I hate housework! It's a waste of time. If I weren't so introverted, I would hire a sexy maid to do it. So I just patiently do my chores with a simmering rage, waiting for the robots to arrive one day and take over.
Having said that, I love a clean well-lighted place.
I grew up in a house that was always immaculate. I like the house tidy.. brings peace of mind. Lucky my hubs is the same. Still, it's not TOO perfect! You must not open my cupboards hahaha
That's an awesome place and so clean! It looks like a nice landing pad. You're right, it feels calmer when things are organized and clean. I would take a picture of my place, but my phone is buried under a bunch of Amazon boxes 😆
Hahahhaha
I think exactly the same, I really like lighting, order and cleanliness and if I want that I have to do it! Beautiful pictures!
Good cleaning habits make things easier too and saves time. :)
And they improve life, and the mind!
😆
I'm rather a fanatic on germs. So, you will find my bathroom sterilized regularly. My desk on the other hand is chaos.
As for German cleanliness: In 2000 I toured Germany for about a week. Not one of the public bathrooms (restaurants, etc.) I visited had soap for hand washing. In the U. S. there are ubiquitous signs in public bathrooms that read "employees must wash hands". It would be remarkable to find an empty soap dispenser.
My desk accumulates clutter throughout the day, but I make it habit to put things back before I retire, so I can feel calmer in the morning. The rest of my place depends on which way the wind is blowing that day. Dishes are my kryptonite. :D
Maybe that's one way Germans ensure only the strong survive. I once saw a show in which they said that in Germany people spend an average of four hours a day cleaning. This is hilarious. I'd rather go work in the coal mines. 😄
Looks like a good video for me to go to sleep by...sent it to my iPad, which helps me to doze off every night.
When I clean I look like the road runner. I dash about so I can get it done as quickly as possible.
