Well from the explanation you just gave about that fellow, the fault is from him.
Engaging in comments and replies has been my major source of getting popular and have built some strong relationship with people that only time and God can separate
Engaging people in talk can only help one build good relationship and that person can then include you in his or her voting trail. I know of a person who has put me on his voting trail and i get his upvote on all my posts.
