Between The Devil And Deep Blue Sea

in #rantyesterday

Sometimes to understand certain situations, one needs a little taste of it. This is especially true if the words "I understand your pain" or "I understand how you feel" are used.

While life generally has taught me some unpleasant lessons, those lessons have some how shaped a lot in me. I have on one hand become very empathetic to people's problems because I understand how it feels, and on the other hand, I have grown stone cold to some difficult situations.

Yesterday, I needed to get to a location pretty fast but I was faced with two unpleasant choices. Take the easy and motorable way and spend more time on the road on traffic, or take the less comfortable way and spend more money with less comfort. I decided to chose the latter.

It was very uncomfortable beyond my expectations. Imagine holding tightly to the iron extension on the bike so that I won't get flinged off the bike due to the up and down movement. The road was so bad that I started that I started thinking maybe I would have taken the safe route.

This was due to the ongoing massive reconstruction of the road. I took some pictures when I was going to the location while on a tricycle and never knew there was still paradise compared to what was ahead. My journey was a reverse to civilisation if I must say. It started with movement on a road with cars, downgraded to a road where only tricycles moved, downgraded further to a road where only bikes had easy access and finally to a point where I could only use my legs to jump small multiple potholes along the way.

I got back home with massive body pains and with my legs aching. I just realised after the whole movement that the traffic through the other way would have seen me spend several hours on the road. I can't say which I would have preferred although I'm glad I got home a little after dark.

Have you experienced anything like being torn between two hard choices? How did you manage it?
