Why Do You Care About My (lack of) Money?

in #rant6 years ago

It’s been a loooong time since I last made a proper rant, so it’s about time I let out some steam, while gathering Steem. See what I did there, I haz the smarts.

In a world of status symbols, fast cars and everyone and their mama branding themselves on social media, how are you so dump that you think you know someone by looking at their profile on Instagram or Steemit? Do you really think you know about their daily life, the money they have in their bank account and the struggles they have in life? Do you believe all the fake news too?

Go educate yourself on critical thinking you dumb fuck.

Do you really think you can know who is making money, how much of it and how they make it, by stalking their social media? Without personally and closely knowing a person, their whole history and living conditions, you know nothing, NOTHING!

And why do you care what some uses their money for? Why do you care about how someone else lives their life when it has zero effect on yours, unless you yourself make a point of getting involved in it? Even if you know someone and how they earn a living, why do you care how they choose to spend it?

No matter what someone else buys, it’s not anything away from you. Just like if they stop buying something, you are not gonna get that money. There is not a set sum of money in the world that could be equally divided between everyone. That is a utopia, look it up if you don’t know what it means, but just heads up, it doesn’t exist.

Why are you jealous to a person who is sporting the newest iPhone, Apple watch and Airpods to match, when the person is 30k in debt? Especially when you yourself have paid off your house and live comfortably with your Samsung smartphone from two years ago that works just as well for posting cat pictures on instagram? Why are you jealous to a person who bought a new car so they can take a job 100 kilometres away, with the money they inherited from their mother who they now miss every second of every day? Someone might have won a million euros in the lottery, but they are struggling with an illness that will completely cribble them in a few years, do you want that life? Stop making up stories about other people living a perfect life when you don’t know jack shit.

A real life example from myself on how I choose to use my money: instead of going once every 1,5 months to a hairdresser, like the average woman of my age, and spending around 100 euros every time, I’d much rather buy two pairs of designer heels and cut my hair myself. Then people look at me and wonder how the hell I can afford those shoes and I must clearly have a sugar daddy. Nobody will ever question your choice of going to a hairdresser, even if it costs more. It’s fucking ridiculous.

Spending money on what you value, whether it be a fancy car, getting massages every month, travelling or dining out every day, is your choice and your choice only. We all value different things and experiences, there is no reason to judge someone else or be jealous for what they use their money for. Even if they take a stack of their own money and set it on fire. It ain’t yours so stop thinking about it.

There are a few exceptions to judging someone’s spending habits, like buying humans if the human doesn’t want to be bought, paying for a hitman, and using money for nail extensions while your kids go to bed hungry. Other than something along those lines, you do you, and let others do themselves.

While other people’s spending habits and throwing stones at them keep you up at night, how I can make my life better for myself is what keeps me up at night. Which one do you think is happier?

Always keep a critical mind, and don’t believe people on the internet, not even me, who is often brutally honest. People brand themselves, either on purpose or accidentally, and a lot of it is fantasy. You are better off living your own miserable life than someone else’s.

In my opinion, being a jealous, salty asshole is one of the lowest forms of humans, I have zero respect for people like that. Scum.

Eve out.

Sort:

It's not about how much money you have it's about getting full value for it. If that is a nice car, holiday, or heels whatever it might be is irrelevant. Once you have the money and make the most of it. I haven't bought designer anything in clothes cos they don't matter a fuck to me and all come from the same factory. Yet my car is a shiny bmw. Because I love it and don't care about the cost.

We all prioritise how to spend and I can afford it through buying normal clothes and shopping in lidl. Which I enjoy rather than 100 quid on a pair of runners. My friends wonder where I get the money while they spend a grand on a new phone every year and thousands on coffee but can't understand it.

Exactly, yes, yes, damn right you are! It’s about what you like and how you prioritize your money.

BAM! Someone has shitposted on your cornflakes today!

Someone else will likely ask so it might as well be me, what brought this on?

The track I'm listening to as I type this has just stated:

Just a little money in my pocket and a little bit left for those I love
To have enough food on my table and a little bit more for those who call
And in this land of hope and glory
You'd think there's enough for us all

Damn Asher, you have wrote that faster than I had time to click the comment button. Yes, I have that same question Eve. What brought this on?
And omg those are some expensive hairdressers...

Haha, I'm not sure how much people actually use to go to the hairdresser but I think getting a cut and colour for long hair in my city is definitely somewhere around 100€

Ah I guess I never had to pay for color that’s why it seems like an appalling price! You could get a hair perm and a cut for as cheap as 30$ in Japan, which I used once a year or so... also Germans aren’t good at cutting hair, doesn’t matter how much you pay them xD

It is an appalling price, but luckily, we don’t have to get that done and can choose to spend that money for something more fun!

I am a comment whore, also just a wh.... anyway, the answer is below :D

100 euro is pretty standard over here for the wash/cut/highlight/blow-dry. I agree though, insane prices!

Hahaha, this has been a long time coming, my whole life really. To see my parents work day and night as entrepreneurs, doing everything they possibly can to run a farm and forestry business, well enough to pay off debt little by little and feed us kids, always struggling, while all the same time people throwing stones when they see us having anything of value. I was raised to do my own thing and take responsibility for myself and my family, and let other people do their thing. I fucking hate jealous people who just try and bring other people to their level because they are dumb and lazy.

Ahh. Well yeah, they are dumb and misinformed types and certainly wouldn't make good friends. Send them packing with that whip!

I couldnt agree more @everuncovered. Well said sister keep it real!

"An it harm none, do what thou wilt. This shall be the whole of the law" ---Wiccan Rede
Makes a person think truly of which is better, accepting pagans (myself included), or other judge-mental religions and individuals.
Value yourself above all others.
K

We live in a judgemental society and one in which things have more importance to many people than who a person is. Consumerism adds to the problem along with the ability for people to reach deep into a stranger's life through social media.

Most people are assholes, especially those who judge others without a full understanding of the facts.

I'm not sure what brought on your rant however it was a pretty good one. A person's perception is always going to be their reality and most often their perception is nowhere near the actual reality like you pointed out.

You know what I'm going to say next right? Design and create your ideal life, don't live it by default. Living the best version of your own life and being the best version of yourself as often as possible within that life is righteous. I know I say it a lot but I'll say it again...it's legit.

You have a point there, and I think this is really good advice! Why being jealous and bother about how some people use their resources, when there are so much better thoughts to think and better things to do!
And to other commenters: Hairdressers are not the only costly expense in Finland, I remember paying about USD 8.4 (EUR 7.5) in Helsinki in 2006 for a glass of beer, I guess noadays it's probably more like 12 USD (EUR 10.7), right?

I’m sure you can get a beer under 10euros somewhere in Helsinki but yes, Finland is expensive in general.

Very well said!

Thank you!

I never thought about how they live and how much money they have about people I don’t know. I do not care about this :)

Then you are on the right track in life :)

paying for a hitman

Shit, how did you know?

nd spending around 100 euros every time,

Please excuse me while I collect myself off the floor... 100 euros for hair? Jesus crikey, hairdressers are fucking expensive :O I don't do that whole thing. Personally, I don't get why you would pay anyone to cut your hair/do your nails/give you a mask/shave your legs when you can do all those things yourself for way less money, but as you said, who really gives a shit? It's not my money, so do whatever the hell you want with it.

People love feeling important and being judgmental assholes, so that should explain why they're so keen on judging strangers on social media. People judge how you spend your money because they would like to have that "extra" money themselves, failing to notice they'd have it if they made other cutbacks.

Screw the rest. Good rant ;)

Fine, you get one free pass on the hitman thing, so make it count.

Choices choices, I don't like strangers touching me, but some people PAY for that, go figure, weirdos. I'd rather buy the shoes and buy takeout so I can be home alone and talk to nice people = favourite Steemians.

My money, my problems, if people would know the truth and whole truth, they would stick to their nine to five and be happy with it, instead of wishing to have my life.

Fine, you get one free pass on the hitman thing, so make it count.

Thank fuck, it's a bitch to cancel them, you know? :))

Makes perfect sense, but then, normies don't know cool people aka Steemians, so it makes sense that they don't want to stay at home because they'd have no one cool to talk to. I don't know how going out and letting strangers touch them figures into the equation, but what do you expect? Normies..

if people would know the truth and whole truth, they would stick to their nine to five and be happy with it, instead of wishing to have my life.

Aahh, but that's the point, isn't it? They only want the illusion, the finer, shiny parts of your life. Nobody wants the mess. It's weird that fantasy only works on the finer aspects of someone's life. People never wish they had someone else's problems...

You forgot the safe word didn't you?

I guess that is the point of a fantasy, but isn't it funny that people won't believe the fantasies they read in books, but when they view real life people, they believe everything!

God damn normies.

You forgot the safe word didn't you?

Shit, the dude I hired didn't even offer a safe word. Just a grunt and I assumed the job will be done...

God damn normies.

Which is why Steemians are so great. They've evolved from the primitive normie into something other.

people won't believe the fantasies they read in books, but when they view real life people, they believe everything!

Good point. I guess people think that the "real world" is more important, even if that real world consists mainly of just such fantasies.

Made me think of this song...

"Money, get away
Get a good job with good pay and you're okay
Money, it's a gas
Grab that cash with both hands and make a stash
New car, caviar, four star daydream
Think I'll buy me a football team
Money, get back
I'm all right Jack keep your hands off of my stack
Money, it's a hit
Don't give me that do goody good bullshit
I'm in the high-fidelity first class traveling set
And I think I need a Lear jet
Money, it's a crime
Share it fairly but don't take a slice of my pie
Money, so they say
Is the root of all evil today
But if you ask for a raise it's no surprise that they're
Giving none away, away, away"

Songwriters: Roger Waters

Spot on.
