It is surprising, though. Look past the reporting, and violent crime rates have been plummeting for decades with only a small comparative uptick during the past few years. Political tensions are high, but no one committed this kind of violence against Obama or Biden. There was another high-profile attack against Republicans a few years ago, though, when Rand Paul and others were attacked during a baseball game.

If that is true then that is great but in my understanding, USA does not score well when compared to other democracies around the world.
Remember, there are a lot of attempts of violence that do get prevented. In this case, it may have been just good luck for Trump. He may be the Orange Jesus after all. !LOLZ #TooFuckeh

It's readily verifiable from the FBI violent crime statistics. It started to fall before the Clinton-era "assault weapon ban" went into effect, and continued to decline long after Bush allowed that law to sunset in spite of the economic collapse in 2008 and ongoing socioeconomic problems. We have increased media saturation of sensationalist reporting, not an explosion of violence. What violence remains is associated primarily with gangs and black market drug conflicts.
I hear you. I'm all for improvement. Only suggesting that things look different when you make a comparison to other countries. In which case, it looks bad for both governing parties.
