In the month of Ramadan, there are terms that are so often used in fasting society. These terms become very popular in the fasting month than in other months. What are the terms?
1 SAHUR (Arabic: سحور)
Sahur is a term in Islam that refers to the eating and drinking activities undertaken by Muslims in the early hours of the day for those who will observe fasting during the month of Ramadan on that day. Sahur as breakfast can be matched with iftar as a dinner, during Ramadan, substituting three meals a day (breakfast, lunch, and dinner), although in some places, dinner is also consumed after iftar at night.
2 IFTAR (Arabic: إفطار) Iftar in Indonesian is known as iftar, referring to a banquet when Muslims break their fast during the month of Ramadan. Iftar is one of a series of worship in the month of Ramadan and is often done by a community, and people gather to break their fast together. Iftar is done right after the maghrib time. Traditionally, dates are the first thing to eat when breaking fast. The correct iftar if it follows the original letter is ifthar (plus the letter h after the letter t because it comes from the letter tha '). But writing without the letter h was more able to be absorbed in the Indonesian vocabulary. The form of iftar is masdar isim from afthara yufthiru. In our society, in Ramadan is often held iftar together. Referring to this term, the exact phrase used is: iftar jamai.
3 IMSAK Imsak also applies to fasting beyond the obligatory fasting on the fasting of Ramadan. Imsak meaning taken from the Arabic language is amsaka yumsiku imsak which means restraining. From the notion of holding back, it gives a conclusion that the time of imsak is the time of commencement to withhold everything that breaks the fast. However, at the time of imsak still allowed to eat and drink, as long as not entering the time of dawn. Unfortunately, a commonly understood term for imsak understanding is when one should start to stop eating the meal so as not to be missed into dawn. Understanding is less precise. There is no provision we have to undergo fasting when Imsak time, which means before the entry time shubuh. Because the limit of fasting is not since 'imsak', but since the time of shubuh. In this case, the term 'imsak' experiences a shift of meaning from what it should be.
4 TAKJIL Takjil is a verb, not a noun which means food for breaking the fast. Could be, the beginning of takjil word formed is because the Arabs hasten to break the fast with dates. Thus, the real understanding is absorbed into another meaning in the Indonesian language. In terms of 'takjil', the letter k of the word is actually a substitute for the letter 'ain' in the original, so that the letter k is unheard. The letter k is read as the letter 'ain that line up breadfruit (dead line). Besides written with takjil, sometimes also found people write with ta'jil. In general the word takjil understood most people the same as snacks (usually dates) or other sweet snacks to break the fast. Supposedly, if interpreted, the meaning takjil in the Indonesian language is the insertion. In the context of the fasting month, takjil is intended for the breaking of fasting. Since the fasting meal exemplified by the prophet Muhammad is the date, there is a shift in the sense that the same takjil is the same as the date. Even along with the variety of snacks to break the fast, takjil word can also mean the compote or other sweet snacks.
5 TARAWIH Tarawih Prayer is a special sunnah prayer performed during Ramadan. Tarawih in Arabic is the plural form of ترويحة which is defined as "a moment of rest to be rested". The time of this Sunnah prayer is after isya 'and before shubuh, usually done in congregation in the mosque. However, there is a bit of interesting fact about this prayer that the Messenger of Allah had only done it in congregation in three occasions, and he did not continue on the following nights. Why? He feared that it would be compulsory for Muslims. This prayer is called tarawih which means rest because people who perform tarawih prayer rest after performing four rak'ah prayers. Tarawih prayers include qiyamul lail or evening prayer, but only devoted in the month of Ramadan. So, this tarawih prayer is the night prayer performed in the month of Ramadan.
6 TADARUS The term tadarus comes from the origin of the word darosa - yadrusu, which means studying, researching, studying, studying and taking lessons. Then the addition of the letter ta 'in front of him to be tadaarosa - yatadaarosu, then its meaning increases into mutual learning, or study in more depth. The 'tadarusan' activity that we see everyday in our country, seems almost without the study of meaning in every verse that is read, except for just reading. Sometimes right and wrong reading is not noticed because there is no ustadz who is expert in the field of reading Al-Quran in charge of mentasih reading. Such a form of tadarusan is more appropriate to use the term recalcitrant wal istima '. The word recitation means reading, while the word istima 'means: to hear. The word tadaarusun if diwaqaf be tadaarus derived from the word درس darasa which means is learning. Then follow the wazantafaa'ala, so that mauzunnya becomes تَدَارَسَ tadaarasa. Fi'il that follow this one wazan had sense لِلْمُشَارِكَةِ fa'il (subject) and maf'ulnya (object) simultaneously in the doing, so in the context of this word mean mutual learning. When ditashrif becomes as follows: tadaarusan – tadarosa – yatadaarosu (تَدَارَسَ – يَتَدَارَسُ – تَدَارُساً) and didapatkanlah تَدَارُساً said tadaarusan, which serves as the mashdar, so does it mean to be a learning all together. In other words, the meaning of the term ' tadarus ' in Indonesia has been narrowed so that it means to be limited to reading verses of the Quran.
7 ITIKAF
Itikaf is staying or residing in the mosque with the intention to serve closer to God. Itikaf can be done anytime. However, the Prophet Muhammad advocated for doing itikaf in the last ten days of Ramadan. Itikaf is derived from the Arabic akafa which means settled, committed themselves, or deterred. Sense in the context of worship in Islam is silent in the mosque in order to find means to God Almighty and bermuhasabah (introspection) top acts have done in the past. People who do iʿtikāf are known as mutakif.
The epilogue
Seventh term above actually fitting not only used at the month of Ramadan because most with regard to fasting, except for tarawih. As a user of the language of Indonesia that absorbs those terms from Arabic, some are still in accordance with the true meaning, such as: tarawih, Suhoor, iftar, and itikaf. But some have already shifted, even strayed from its original meaning, such as: imsak, takjil, and tadarus. But that's the language.
