The Human Kindness Project – Canada – Extreme Outreach Coffee House

in #rak6 years ago (edited)

My last post was about the new hashtag #RAK that I think is more than worth to become a trending tag (on any social media platform). RAK stands for Random Acts of Kindness and if you want to know why it was created, check out this link here:

https://steemit.com/travelfeed/@toocurious/the-human-kindness-project-canada-is-anything-really-for-free-these-days

In short, this hash tag is about highlighting the goodness of humankind (which is a funny word now that I think about it, because if you add ‘ness’ at the end you get humankindness ;). Anyway, this hashtag is to counter the amount of negativity that gets thrown into the world because of what general news channels prioritise every day.

These #RAK stories (no matter how small) need to be told and I think Steemit is the best platform to do this, because this the only social media platform where you can get in contact with so many different people from around the globe. It doesn’t matter if you are from Europe, Africa, America or Asia, I am a 100% sure that RAKs exist everywhere and by making this hashtag trending, people will start realizing that they aren’t an exception at all and will start seeing the good in human kind again and changing their view on the world.

This effect has even been scientifically proven, watch this TED talk and be amazed! PS: it is super funny as well ☺

Today I’ll tell you another story that has multiple RAKs in it and it all started with a comment from a fellow steemian on one of my previous posts!

lbn photography-8.jpg

We are traveling around Canada, in a small van and I got a comment of @cliffpower saying that we should stop by his café in Victoria, if we would ever come to Vancouver Island.

lbn photography-11.jpg

It was sort of already in our minds to pay the island a visit, because during our trip many people had told us it was an amazing place and definitely something we should not skip when visiting this part of the world. So, we decided to take him up for his invitation and check out his little establishment.

lbn photography-6.jpg

In the beginning I thought it would just be nice to meet a fellow steemian in real life and I didn’t know that his coffee place was actually a non-profit organization, where you can drink very nice coffee and in return donate whatever you want to his underprivileged children association. He told me all about how some parents in Canada don’t have the means to send their children on a summer camp because they are just too poor. Well, his non-profit organizes takes care of that by sending kids for free to an incredible summer camp that they remember for the rest of their lives.

lbn photography-4.jpg

The day we went to visit his café was kind of special, because he had found a donor that would double all of the donations for that up to 10000 CAD. At closing time the café had raised over 20000 in total!

lbn photography-7.jpg

lbn photography-3.jpg

We spent quite a bit of time in his café and I was super impressed with what he has accomplished over the years. The café exists for 3 years now and it almost feels like a RAK factory, it seems to trigger the kindness in people. He told me about random people walking into his café to donate for example furniture or food. A lady artist even gave him a stand full of self-drawn postcards that he can sell. So much kindness!

This organization has been running for many years now and I can only imagine the smiles this summer camp puts on the faces of all these kids! I wish him all the best!

When we said our goodbyes he gave us a bag full of snacks and fruit for free, another RAK :).

And now it is up to you!

anti-fud-campaign.png

Let the world know that no matter where you come from, you can come up with a story that shows how kind a human can be. Write a post about something kind that you experienced in your life lately. Tag it with #RAK (Random Acts of Kindness) and I will upvote it personally and hopefully a lot of others will follow.

To spread the word and qualify:

Start your title of the post with: The human kindness project – Country where the RAK happened – Title. Please document with a couple of photos (they don’t have to be professional at all) and if you really don’t have any, that’s fine as well.

Lets make the #RAK tag a trending tag on Steemit.

Imagine this as the biggest anti-FUD campaign ever and show what we are capable of as humans!

All the best!

PS: As a test and to see how many people read the end of a post I’ll be giving away 5 booster packs from @steemmonsters to the first five people who comment on this post with a link to their #RAK post on their Steemit/steempeak/busy account. If you don't know what the monsters are all about, just check out their account. It is going to be insane!

Cool, just so cool!

It was cool and full of kindness. I solute those persons doing a novel work for children's and looking at a face (Smiling faces ) of those childrens's really gives a piece of mind for them (cafe owner) also. Those articles give the inspiration to all and surely I will write one with hashag RAK. Good work and best wishes for both writter and the cafe (keep doing)

Thank you

Hello friend

Your support and comments will really encourage me.

Kindness tests should be done elswhere aswell.
Because in Canada
Everyone already is super nice and kind

I had been wondering whether steemit was just about bots, whale wars, selfish sp group guys/gals who upvote each other and the lot. Thanks to God that people like you exist and I hope dear @berniesanders can also heave a sigh of relief
I will post our story about an #RAK which helped us a lot and also inspired us to do the same thing to others

kindness ... long live. I not have a link #RAK and i totally unaware of those monster things. i never tried to understand that monsters. im scared.

Wow, take a minute to read this story, crazy how different a life on this planet can go. Thanks for sharing @dicksonmujuni https://steemit.com/toocurious/@dicksonmujuni/the-human-kindness-project-uganda-rak

The first story took place many years ago as I was walking home from high school with half a dozen friends, fresh off our last day of exams and free for the winter holiday. Passing by a cemetery on the route home, we noticed an empty paper coffee cup lying in the frozen grass in front of a gravestone. We all saw the litter and noted it with regret but kept walking, focused on the celebration ahead. A few steps later, however, we noticed that one member of our group, Justin, had disappeared. We looked back to see him run toward to the graveyard, hop the fence, pick up the coffee cup, and throw it away in the trash can on the street corner.

Wonderfully described "RAK" random act of kindness, very nice and effective post that inspired human to show kindness because in today's scenario people forget their nature of kindness this is the thing which differentiate us from animal.
i will vote for you and i will look forward to your next post

thanks a lot sir i am truly honored

How awesome! I hope to eventually have such a great story as this. I’m glad you were able to tell more people about this place I will check out their posts and give them some love!

Good on you @toocurious for continuously spreading positivity in your life and now trying (and hopefully succeeding) on social media. We do not have a #RAK post per say...what we mean is with the #RAK tag, but we do know a person who has done a Random Act of Kindness. Before, we post the post on here, we would to say that although she wrote about us, she took the time out to start a similar conversation about positivity. She has started a weekly contest to highlight inspiring Steemians for others to know about and she encourages others to write something positive and inspiring about another Steemian recently on their mind. This is not her first positive/kind act, she has asked Malaysians living in Malaysia to write about travel destinations and tips from their perspective. She helped edit their post and gave exposure on her account through her Travel Series posts. All the SBDs went back to the original writer (disclaimer: she took a small cut if there was a lot of time consuming editing to do). Please give a @steemmonster pack to someone who writes a post using #RAK, not us or who we are talking about, we just wanted to inform you and highlight her: @yasminep

https://steemit.com/contest/@yasminep/which-steemit-account-has-inspired-you-recently-steemit-contest-week-8

Hi guys, thanks! The reactions here on Steemit mean a lot to me and feel sort of more honest than on other platforms. I will check our @yasminep for sure. However, if you have a RAK to share, don't hesitate to do so, the ultimate goal is to get a page full of RAKs so everyone who goes to the rak tag can be inspired and will realise there are a lot of humans out there who do kind things. And even if I would pick you to give a free pack, you can always pay that forward to accounts you think deserve it, that's the beauty of Steemit.

We feel the same. We guess that those who put in the effort on this platform do so with honesty.

We'll look at what we've done in the past, but equally we'll look at doing a RAK soon :)

We'll see if we could do something soon (a bit busy this week, but everything is dependent on if we have our thinking hats on or not).

Nice comment

Thank you @rohanmore! Glad you think so too! :D

Seems great project... Lol

Thanks to tell this project

Thanks, @toocurious. We have been getting hit hard with new and inactive accounts asking for pizza and then deleting their accounts.

We would also like to ask everyone to please be careful and research potential recipients before gifting, as the winter holidays tend to bring an influx of new and old accounts which only come around to ask for gifts this time of year.

Seems great project and great effort. You are doing really great job. very informative article..thanks for sharing Awesome post..

Congratulations @toocurious!

Great article, I myself do not quite like the term "Random Act of Kindness" as I feel that acts of kindness should be a given not just performed at "Random".

I am sure that this is not the case here and it is obvious. The term should be re-thought to something that encourages people to perform kind acts as a habit or instinctively rather than as a random event.

This is nice place for travels and your project to useful.

@toocurios how can i resist thos who in staring of campaign when many people are not supporting me , they are saying that i must choose my currier instead of helping others, there are many groups who are helping the needy one

Hey @toocurious! its wonderful topic and really it shown the path of humankindness... keep going we are here to support for everyone.. thanks again for such an impressive subject..

@toocurious This outreach serves families in need. This guys host approximately 50 BBQ’s per year, which equals about 7,500 meals. The kids are trained to cook on a BBQ and serve food to their community. Teaching kids to serve in their community brings freedom. One of the greatest highlights of the year! So many families in need have told us that the Extreme Christmas dinners are now part of their annual tradition. Bringing hope is our main mission at EOS and this is one of the ways we share hope. This is where hospitality meet goodness. The Extreme Coffee house is home to our NEW Youth skills training program! #RAK
